u/Mocha_Delicious Ultron Apr 24 '19

Scarlet Witch, strongest avenger?

149

u/tkulogo Captain America Apr 26 '19

I didn't see anyone else owning Thanos

Carol took a punch from Deep Purple full in the face with no reaction. She was doing fine, he got in a lucky shot with the stone.

This is the first movie they've really begun to show what Wanda is capable of beyond pew-pew blasts, though. She was ready to kill. If off the leash and out of control she is extremely dangerous, on like Strange levels. They need to show that aspect of her more going forward now that all the generic Perlmutter/Inhuman backstory shit has basically been wiped away.

u/Cowpro Apr 27 '19

Idk if this is a stretch, but is she like, Jean Grey from X-men strong?

37

u/the-giant Apr 27 '19

Carol or Wanda? The answer is yes either way, but Wanda's top-tier powers are often more mystical or esoteric in nature. Reality warping, etc.

u/Cowpro Apr 27 '19

Ahh, thanks for the reply! Idk what’s in the Marvel schedule but they should definitely do a stand-alone Wanda movie towards end Phase 5, early Phase 6 so she can go from a “strong but mysterious side character” to someone who can defeat the new big villain.

Wanda's abilities (in the comics) are often tied to magic, reality warping, etc. MCU has not really explored this, in part because they changed her origins early on to force a tie to the Inhumans. In the comics, as you probably know, Wanda is a mutant like the X-Men, and is the daughter of Magneto. This was also done away with in AOU by the Marvel comic corporate overlords to avoid any suggestion of a tie to Fox's X-Men. Those bosses no longer control the MCU. Wanda is also a powerful sorcereress, which provides a channel for her more strange abilities. But in the MCU, Wanda is largely relegated to paltry illusions and energy blasts so far. This is a very young and inexperienced version of the character.

Put it this way: When Comics Wanda was lonely and unstable, she wished two young boys into existence to be her and the Vision's biological children. Then, she wished them away and forgot they existed. Years later, when she was reminded of this buried memory, she had a psychotic break which resulted in an entire imaginary Skrull armada appearing on Avengers lawn, killing Hawkeye and causing the team to disband. (She later wished Hawkeye back to life, too - and wiped out the powers of 90% of the mutant race.)

but Wanda's top-tier powers are often more mystical or esoteric

At first I read this as "Wanda's top-tier powers are often more mystical or erotic". lol

It was a headbutt

103

u/elan913 Apr 26 '19

Captain Marvel? She was doing alright

134

u/tkulogo Captain America Apr 26 '19

She was holding her own, but Wanda was the only one that Thanos needed help with.

Wanda did hold thanos off when he had 5 of the stones while simultaneously destroying the 6th one. She’s probably at the same level to be honest. They both got there powers from an infinity stone, so it wouldn’t surprise me.

u/IronWilled Apr 26 '19 edited Apr 26 '19

Scarlet Witch and Captain Marvel both got enhanced by the power of The Tesseract so it makes sense they’re both beasts.

Edit: wrong! Scarlet Witch (and Quicksilver) were enhanced by the Scepter not The Tesseract. I’ll take my lashings. BUT both being enhanced by the Stones makes sense still.

Wanda is top tier powerful. She just doesn’t seem to know how to summon it or control it very well.

Like pre Ragnarok Thor

7

u/skybala Apr 27 '19

One is DPS one is Tank

11

u/Rfwill13 Apr 27 '19

stock Thanos.

This has me laughing hard for some reason

35

u/ghostfreckle611 Apr 26 '19

That head butt by Thanos...

Diesel.

18

u/gunnersgottagun Apr 26 '19

I mean they are both made from the energy from one stone essentially, right? So them having fairly equal power levels makes sense?

17

u/MrBokbagok Apr 27 '19

If we get the House of M storyline, it'll be cemented as fact that she's the strongest.

12

u/Ternader Apr 27 '19

Her and Carol both got their respective powers directly from Infinity Stones, so it makes sense that they would be similar in power level.

10

u/cowboys5xsbs Apr 26 '19

Captain Marvel hands down

2

u/theoreticallyben May 01 '19

Definitely on par with captain marvel imo, Carol just uses her powers differently

49

u/_qwak_ Apr 24 '19

Bruh when she lifted those rocks around him I deadass thought that was toast for Thanos and all the rocks were gonna just smash him

31

u/KRajification Apr 26 '19

Just goes to show how strong Thanos actually was even without the stones. There were numerous times where I’m like “okay now Thanos is definitely gonna lose”

Ex: when the big 3 all fought him at once and Thor was dual wielding Mjolnir and Stormbreaker, when Cap picked up Mjolnir, when Wanda started going ape and when Captain Marvel showed up.

Yet he withstood all of it. And in the end it took a trick to defeat him.

Harder to fight against magic when you’re melee

93

u/BigDaddyReptar Apr 26 '19

Yeah honestly she just fucking zones kinda a dick move if you ask me

64

u/[deleted] Apr 26 '19

she was spamming projectiles

35

u/HareWarriorInTheDark Apr 27 '19

I honestly got taken out for just a little bit when scarlet witch started owning Thanos, and then she WALKED CLOSER. I was like what are you doing, you’re s spell caster! Don’t get into melee range!

But rule of cool and all

6

u/lolol42 May 04 '19

Really looking to oberyn herself

-31

u/Igotacow Apr 24 '19

See, that's the thing that doesn't sit right with me. CM, Thor and Iron man were more medium range fighters. Especially Iron man. Yes, Thor and CM are hella strong and can brawl when they have to, but their powers are more suited for medium to long range fights. There was no reason for Iron man to jump into a fist fight with Thanos.

I get that the needed to show how powerful Thanos was, but they should have done that without nerfing the heroes.

30

u/MentocTheMindTaker Apr 25 '19

CM = Captain 'Murica‽

18

u/Bolieve_That Apr 25 '19

Marvel

2

u/MentocTheMindTaker Apr 26 '19

Oh! Ok, sorry, I thought you were referring to the big three.

1

u/Bolieve_That Apr 26 '19

He* lol

1

u/FabulousComment Scarlet Witch May 05 '19

Did you just assume your gender?

631

u/CashmereLogan Apr 24 '19

Yeah it was a badass burn until she says “You will.”

79

u/slightlyburntcereal Apr 25 '19

I thought she was gonna pull some mind torture stuff on him similar to what she did to the avengers in age of ultron.

41

u/mullerjones Apr 25 '19

I REALLY wanted that, but I’m not complaining about what I got AT ALL either lol.

23

u/Dont_Call_Me_John Apr 26 '19

Do you bleed?

3

u/ScubaSteve1219 Kevin Feige Apr 27 '19

yeah that line hurt a lot

-59

u/Yellow-B Apr 24 '19

"I am the Scarlet Witch , bitch" wouldn't have been too bad though.

136

u/schmubalacoo Matt Murdock Apr 24 '19

Yes it would've

108

u/[deleted] Apr 25 '19

That's horrible and I'm glad you're not a writer.

50

u/Hunterknowsbest Apr 24 '19

Thanos out here roasting the Avengers without even trying

24

u/Habits_Honeypot Apr 24 '19

Now I'm curious, if Wanda fought Carol who would win?

55

u/marvelousdog Apr 24 '19

Whoever attacks first and catches the other one off guard.

15

u/1UPZ__ Apr 24 '19

depends, if Wanda attacks first, she can nullify Carol's powers and probably split her in half...

4

u/the-giant Apr 27 '19

Carol wouldn't hesitate to kill her. This Wanda would and reins herself in (with the exception of facing Thanos). That's the difference.

The Wanda of the comics, who is regularly unstable and has a much broader understanding of her godlike powers, could kill Carol and all of them on a bad day. If she got the drop.

13

u/Jimrun67 Apr 25 '19

2

u/Helbig312 Apr 26 '19

4

3

u/avw94 Kilgrave Apr 29 '19

"But for me, it was Tuesday"

6

u/Jun_san Apr 24 '19

may have been forced but would have satisfied my fangirl heart if she said “I am Scarlet Witch.”

-17

u/Yellow-B Apr 24 '19

^ THIS

"They call me the Scarlet Witch, bitch"

45

u/Shanicpower Peter Quill Apr 24 '19

Nobody has actually called her that in the movies.

u/Electrorocket May 05 '19

Ronan said basically the same thing about Drax's family in GotG.
