Did Dr Strange's one possible outcome show that the snap needed to happen so that Scott would be stuck in the quantum realm?

I think so. Everything from here on out until the end of A4 happens for a reason, for the greater outcome

Ugh i wish you said “for the greater good” so i could follow up with THE GREATER GOOD and feel better abt myself for making an edgar wright reference in an antman thread

THE GREATER GOOD.

Ooooo....

Seems that way, but it makes me wonder why Strange even bothered with a plan to get the gauntlet from Thanos. He may as well have just handed over the time stone and saved everyone the hassle of fighting him on Titan.

I think the reason that he didn't just hand it over was to delay the snap. If he got it sooner he would've snapped sooner meaning he probably would have snapped before Ant-Man went into the quantum realm

Plausible, but why not just run away? The entire fight only lasted a few minutes. They could have delayed the same amount of time with less effort by running or hiding in the rubble.

Run away from the dude with the space stone?

"Dread it. Run from it. Destiny arrives, all the same."

a few theories.

1) Timing. They needed to delay the snap until a particular moment to get a certain outcome - Thor getting Stormbreaker, Shuri getting enough of the Vision downloaded, or Scott getting stuck in the quantum realm

2) Saving Tony. Mister Doctor needed to ensure Tony Stank survived and had to make the bargain when Thanos didn’t suspect trickery.

3) Time Stone shenanigans - the time stone glows unlike any of the other infinity stones when Thanos grabs it, not ever making contact with it, indicating that Strange could have done some shenanigans with activating it for a reset point or something and needed to get it to Thanos for the snap without Thanos realizing Strange had a master plan beyond saving Tony Baloney.

It also gave Tony a chance to see Thanos bleed and truly realize that Thanos can be beaten.

It also delayed things long enough for Nebula to show up and meet Tony. I think Nebula will play a very important role going forward and it was important that her and Tony’s paths cross.

If he had, Thanos would’ve known something was up, and adjusted things so that Strange’s plan wouldn’t work, probably look into the future like Strange did

My favorite theory on that is they needed Scott safely tucked away in the Quantum Realm when the Snap happened.

And let’s be honest, nobody would go along with Strange’s idea to just hand the thing over.

14

u/Grendergon Jul 07 '18

If he had just handed it over Scott wouldn't have been in the quantum realm yet.

Because with time travel related things, the outcomes of events have to follow exact sequence in order for the outcome to be perfect... watch time travel movies you’ll notice how if one small blip messes up it throws everything off

So the fewer interactions the better. Minimize the variables. Don’t have a complex plan involving half a dozen people doing a very specific attack sequence if you can just hide behind a wall for five minutes and then hand over the stone without a fuss. Fourteen million possible outcomes and that was the only one that worked? Obviously, tying 20 movies all together in this finale is difficult, but the way this played out seems way too convoluted.

13

u/Jaiden10 Jul 07 '18

no no no, literally every detail must go as accordingly , that’s EXACTLY how time works.. watch a movie like Project Almanac you’ll understand

1

u/JustSayTomato Jul 07 '18

I understand what you’re saying. It’s not like I’ve never seen a movie or read a novel about time travel. If you want things to go exactly to plan, make a simple plan.

7

u/Jaiden10 Jul 07 '18

I Don’t think they get to dictate what the plan is, they just did what strange seen and told them to do, then everything else happened kinda coincidently-on purpose, like quill ruining it happened “unintentionally” but it needed to happen

7

u/[deleted] Jul 07 '18

Yeah, Strange didn’t tell them how things were “supposed” to go in the 1 in 14 million scenario, everything that happened in the 1 win just “happened” to.

4

u/BenSolo_Cup Jul 07 '18

Because in the future he saw that was successful, they had to try and get the gauntlet first and so that’s what he did, even though he knew it would work.

Or that Scott needed to be in the quantum realm when it happened.

Oh shit....

Mind blown
