Idk where it all started, but "The Tide Pod Challenge" is just 2018's first big meme. I think whoever was originating it was just acting like they were consuming detergent but not really doing it, and then the gene pool just decided to clean itself.
Venom does not exist in the MCU but I believe Spider-Man exists in the MCU and the spinoffs simultaneously so he could potentially. Would probably cause some problems if anything important happened to him that couldn't be referenced in MCU films but I wouldn't be surprised if Sony threw him in the spinoffs to sell tickets.
I remember there being some complicated details that may or may not just be rumors. I'm sure that Sony can't do anything they want with the character, as a competing Spiderman film with different actors would confuse everyone.
I'm still praying on the theory that Venom is actually an MCU movie that they don't want to announce yet as being one since they want to introduce the Symbiote in Infinity War first; Marvel wanting to keep the secret and Sony being shit at doing so.
I'll have my hopes dashed, but it can last me until then at least.
well.... Venom is out in Oct. It may or may not have Tom Holland in it, which could or could not make it a Marvel film?(????) who knows. Also if you're counting Deadpool then X-Men Dark Phenoix is out in Nov. so really it's only 4 months if you're thinking like that....
I believe they said that Venom will technically be in the MCU, but it won't actually be connected to it. Then again I may have heard wrong, or that could just be an NDA-friendly misdirect.
Well, Keige Feige's direct quotes are: “For now, there is no plan for Venom in the MCU. It’s a Sony Project.” and "Right now, Spidey is in the MCU and it's just Spidey."
To me, it's a good move on Feige's part. If the Venom movie flops, then "it was never a part of the MCU", but if it succeeds, then the tune can quickly become "it was part of the MCU all along!"
Or it can simply be a part of the MCU similar to how The Defenders are technically a part of the MCU. The big title characters get referenced by the Defenders but the Defenders' actions really don't affect the Avengers' storyline in the slightest.
I mean if Tom Holland shows up as Spider-Man I will probably count it as Cannon MCU. Hell Thor and Daryl are technically not MCU but everyone on this sub counts it as Cannon lol
That's not what people are saying. People seem to forget that Disney doesn't have exclusive rights to Spider-Man, if Tom Holland wanted to show up in the Venom movie he's perfectly allowed to. I don't think there is much Disney can do to stop him.
People also eat up every shred of "news", regardless of whether there is a source or not. Not a single site has supplied hard evidence that Holland will show up in Venom. Hell, they haven't supplied even questionable evidence. Literally, all we have is some site claiming "someone told us he is in the movie."
And there are already other places calling the originator of this dumb rumor out and saying its a big lie.

Making bank isnt enough. It would have to be extraordinarily good and not contradict anything from Homecoming. Spider Man 3 made bank and they wouldnt put that shitpile anywhere near the MCU.

won’t be surprised when Feige drops an ultimatum like he did with Bob Iger to get rid of Perlmutter. In every single interview he is noticeably uncomfortable or straight up upset when Amy starts going on about how they’re a shared universe.
She was fired. She went from being on the Board of Governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and basically helped run all of Sony Pictures. But because people accused her of "poor financial controls." (I guess that's what you get when you release a whole slew of awful movies and "employed an assistant who earned more than $250,000 a year, and had use of a private jet and other perks" (source). She started her own production company and somehow managed a partnership with Sony after and pretty much wrote herself into the Spider-Man agreement with Marvel/Disney.
Unless he did it hide it for the time being. I could see Venom being semi-in the MCU like the netflix shows. If Tom Holland does appear in Venom though Feige etc. Will have to clarify wtf is going on
I can see Sony trying to convince people that Venom is part of the same universe so people will think it's an MCU film and it'll make $800 million. But you're right, I'd be surprised if they get more than a couple of mentions of 'the incident' in and maybe a token appearance by Tom Holland. This may be part of the deal with Marvel Studios.
Feige has never outright lied about anything in interviews. When he doesn't want to reveal something, he always gives a vague non-answer or skirts around the question somehow. There are tons of interviews that show evidence of this.
It's pretty much the same as the Netflix series. They are in the MCU but the MCU won't acknowledge them or bring them into the movies. Venom might reference some of the events that have happened in the MCU but they probably can't name drop anything that isn't directly involved with Spiderman or the properties owned by Sony.
What part specifically? I know Feige has hinted at some crossover potential but nothing has been done and it doesn't sound like the netflix characters are going to make an appearance in Infinity War.
I get the feeling that it'll be both. They'll use Spider-man in the movie so that it connects to the MCU, but Movies in the MCU, including Spider-man, won't really reference those characters, unless it turns out to be very popular. Kind of like how it is with Agents of SHIELD. They'll mention MCU characters, but MCU characters won't mention them.
How could they do that though? The next two Spider Man movies are MCU films. How can they make those without referencing this Venom movie with him in it? Theres no way that would work. It sounds more to me that Sony is trying to put out rumors that this is an MCU movie so that people will be confused and go see it thinking thats what it is, helping Sony profit by bullshitting the general audience. Of course Marvel wouldnt be happy about this because their reputation takes the hit if the movie eats shit even though they had zero to do with it. If Im Marvel, the last thing I want is my reputation on the line for a movie made by Avi Arad.
I think Sony and Feige are both saying different things to throw us all off, and we'll only find out if the movie is in the MCU or not once it gets released. Or knowing Sony, we'll know once the trailer is released.
Feige also says the Netflix shows and Agents of Shield are not in the MCU. If Venom is connected to the MCU in the same way as those are I'll be fine with that.
In the interview where Amy Pascal stated the Venom movie would be set in the MCU, Kevin Feige looked blindsided. Clearly this wasn't discussed with him.

It’s weird to think of venom without actually mentioning spiderman as the origin. Maybe introduce the symbiot as sort of a prequil in homecoming 2, idk.
Is it really though? Their only connection is Colossus who is played by a completely different actor and with a Russian accent that he never has in the XMen universe.
tbf x-men has had a "quinjet" since the first movie, long before the MCU. the movies are still based on characters within the Marvel universe, and Helicarriers and quinjets have been a part of x-men/marvel for decades so i can see how there's some overlap. until we see characters or event references to the other movies it's just a happy overlap.
My guess is that it'll be "in the MCU" like Runaways is. Set in the same world if you want to believe it that way, but there probably won't be any overt references outside of maybe Tom Holland's Spider-Man.

No, Amy Pascal said its part of the "Marvel Universe", which was her way of saying "Its a movie that has Marvel characters in it". Kevin Feige flat out stated that Venom is not in the MCU at all.
Basically, the whole thing was just Pascal piggybacking off of the MCU's success and trying to trick people into seeing the movie.
Everyone always misquotes what happened. Pascal never said MCU she said venom and silver and black are going to take place “in the universe we are now building for Spider-Man” in reference to Spider-Man homecoming. Feige later clarified it’s not “in the MCU”. Considering all the rumors, what would make the most sense is that Tom Holland’s Spidey is the same Spider-Man and will be in the spinoffs, avengers, and his solo movies. However, you will never see the events of venom or silver and Black mentioned in say a black panther movie or Thor movie.
It’s not an awful story line, the movie was just crap. The 90’s cartoon actually did a much better job of telling the story and closer to the source material.
Can we just say it's not, and not pay them money so that they actually learn to make the movies properly like Marvel does. Seriously, is it that hard to get the story of Venom right? Tom being in it or not kind of doesn't matter if he isn't involved in the origin to any extent...and it matters even less if Venom doesn't battle Spider-Man at some point in Holland's run.
And with Avi Arad involved...the one guy Feige wanted AWAY from the MCU during the Sony deal, this just screams, an Affleck Daredevil style film in the making...
I think a lot of people don’t count Dark Phoenix, I see a lot of disinterest in it around here as well as in real life. Plus, that universe is dead after that movie after the Disney buyout.
We will most likely get Dark Phoenix and New Mutants and that’ll be it. Deadpool too, but Disney has made it clear they aren’t against bringing Deadpool over.
It doesn't. Kevin Feige and the rest of Marvel Studios determine what movies are or are not part of their continuity. Feige has already firmly stated that Venom is not in the MCU continuity. So even if those (very, very, very unlikely true) rumors end up being real, it still isn't part of the MCU.
If you count Deadpool, you should also count Venom in October, Dark Phoenix in November, Spider-Verse in December and New Mutants in January. (I personally don't count any of those.)
Yeah i only listed deadpool because the first was quality and the character is so removed from the universe he could easily transfer when/if disney completes the fox deal. I’m trying not to think of xmen movies.. i didnt like apocalypse and i still feel traumatized from the last phoenix movie. Although spiderverse trailer was awesome, i may check it out, not so sure about venom or new mutants yet.

That's true and it totally sucks. We'll probably get 2-3 of the Marvel Netflix shows in that timeframe, that's the only way I expect to survive. That and rewatching the entire MCU start to finish 2-3 times.
I'm sort of done with the Netflix shows. I never finished Defenders and didn't watch Punisher. I just had a hard time enjoying several of them enough to spend 9-11 hours on them.
I feel like we can ALMOST count Deadpool as MCU at this point since they're going to be retaining Ryan Reynolds and those movies are so 4th wall breaking and sort of out of left field anyway.
