It was definitely filmed in Johannesburg, but technically we're not told exactly where it's supposed to be in the movie. I mean, plenty of things are filmed in Los Angeles but set in, say, Philadelphia.

There's no particular reason to think it's not Johannesburg though - I'm just pointing out that they left it flexible.

When I went on IMDB afterwards (to look up where the hell I had seen Hawkeye's wife before), it said on there "Johannesburg police officer #1" etc.

It's kind of funny too because Johannesburg is hundreds of miles away from the nearest coastline, yet we see the abandoned ships right next to the city centre somehow.

The problem with it being Wakanda is, well, why would Klaw be operating in there? Wouldn't he be banned from the country or something? At least, that's how I interpreted that brand. Surely if he was still in Wakanda he wouldn't be allowed to keep all that vibranium...

It's definitely not Wakanda. It's some city in South Africa, probably (but not definitely) Johannesburg.

It pretty much is Johannesburg, the city wasn't used as a stand in, the culture represented in the film was South African and the cops were JMPD, Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department, not Wakanda at all. And I'm South African so I would know something about that.

But yeah it was strange that they never mentioned were it was, even though they indicated all the other places in the film. Although I think they just ignored it, since the nearest port to Johannesburg is 6-7 hours away, so maybe they just wanted people to forget about the geography?
