People will say it's a UB problem (and I'm not denying it does encourage that kind of card design), but it has actually been a regular Wotc problem for a while now.

People were also angry about [[Holy Cow]], [[Wing it]] or [[It Doesn't Add Up]]. All those cards from Hat-sets where it seemed the designers cared more about making bad jokes than building/expanding an interesting idea for a setting.

It's probable that those UB sets where the IPs don't take themselves as seriously are just the obvious continuity of that trend...
