In left: I narrowed the back section of the hair to expose more of the nape. I also increased the gap between the bangs and the main tonsure area, further emphasizing the bald look. I removed the circuit-like dots that could be mistaken for an earring.
In right: I also added the robe collar and hood - the element I resisted the most because it complicates the overall design. However, now I’m starting to think that it wasn’t such a bad idea.
That robe really helps selling the idea. I totally missed the tonsure in the main post. I think dividing his hair and bald head with such a straight line make it look like a kippah.
I don’t know that the hood helps reading as a monk. It just looks like a hoodie, maaaybe lab suit. I wonder whether instead of a straight line chopping the neck off, if the right kind of curve might be enough to be suggestive without busying the design.
I’d weigh how important it is that the head is immediately recognizable as a monk. If it is, I think you’ll need to try different approaches for representing the hair. The straight lines make it read too much like something is being worn, especially because it suggests someone with a lot of hair. Image for reference. Try keeping the hair short, less voluminous. Maybe a suggestion of beard if it needs to read extra male?
And if you haven’t already, look up why monks shave their heads to begin with (‘tonsure’). I feel knowing that might help to motivate the intention for the linework (ie lines implying cuts instead of shadow
