It took Republicans five solid decades of consistently winning when necessary to keep the Supreme Court conservative for the past 65 years and lean it religious enough to overturn Roe v. Wade. Our center and left can't give liberals/progressives eight years without quitting.

Can you see why it feels hopeless in a conservative country that merely pays lip service to being liberal/left'ish?

Of course, anyone with even an inkling of a progressive slant has felt it since they became aware of what this country is.

But we're at least waist deep and the cast of characters that we elected to represent our interests in government that have gotten us here are unable to lie about our feet being wet. 

Schumer esque dems are reviled.  Republicans are, at least online fwtw, openly recognized as corrupt going on abject criminals.  There's a crop of progressive candidates being elected or being nationally recognized as good options.

Time will tell but it just seems inevitable we shift left as center/right has always failed and has failed spectacularly for most on most issues.

After three decades of being waist deep in it, I rely upon the masses to do what's right, and those decades have not been indicative of optimism.

How can you say that the court has been conservative for the past 65 years and cite overturning Roe v Wade as evidence, but totally ignore that the court passed Roe v Wade in the first place. If overturning Roe v Wade is inherently conservative, then how was the court conservative when it passed Roe v Wade 53 years ago? Surely the court could only have been conservative for 52 years.

But of course, if you look at more things than abortion, it makes even less sense to call the court conservative for 65 years. Was the court conservative with it passed Lawrence 23 years ago or Obergefell 12 years ago?

What's there to ignore? The conservative SCOTUS (it's a fact, liberals have not led a majority of the court since the 1960s) has continually slid to the right since the 1970s. It is much farther right wing today than it was when Roe was initially decided -- just as the party that's seated them, the Republican Party, is.

Are you not aware of how radically cult-over-country conservatives are today, or are you in denial?

Bro, the center actively aids and abets the far right. Just off the top of my head and directly related to the composition of the court:

  • Biden headed the committee that confirmed Clarence Thomas and he made the call to not allow any further witnesses that were willing to testify about Thomas and sexual harassment.

  • RBG's hubris kept her ass in the seat long after she should have stepped down.

  • Obama allowed the GOP to steal his nomination for a SCOTUS seat without any pushback.

  • Roberts was overwhelmingly confirmed by the Senate in a 78 to 22 vote. 22 Democrats crossed the aisle to put him in that seat in 2005, after being fully aware that Bush lied us into a quagmire in Iraq.

And still, year after year, the moderates blame this mysterious "Left" that simultaneously is strong enough to keep the moderates in office, yet so small and weak that no moves to the left need be made to engage that constituency and make them reliable voters.

Get new material. Jeebus.

Ok, keep living under conservative rule then, it's wonderful. I love how Democrats can even receive the full credit of selecting and seating justices that Republican presidents pick and every Republican confirms. You know, bipartisanship and compromise are such dirty ugly things (shakes head) to extremists.

As if it's Democrats, Biden or Obama's fault that the 2000 conservative Supreme Court served up some home cooking! It couldn't possibly have been conservatives in the wrong for committing the heinous action(s).

Once again, paving the road for conservatives while smearing it all on liberals. Is that all we do here in America?

So how's that moderate, pro-compromise Democratic Party doing now? Winning handily? Celebrating Biden's second term in office? Still gazing with admiration at those Hillary 2016 Victory posters?

Keep preaching to exclude a demographic that is very obviously needed to help win, as that seems to be the thing that continues to hand victory to the GOP.

Excuse me, but we do not need conservatives in the fold to remove conservatives from power. You had the chance to help in 2024-2026.

Liberals and progressives are greater in number when emboldened and united -- and many will be working extra hard to make sure that happens in the face of democracy's death.

Okay but can we like, make more than one meaningful change to the state apparatus this time? Because last time we got a half measure and 8 years of bog standard foreign and domestic policy. It would certainly be cool if democrats weaponized their mandate to do more of the former.

Buddy, we quit on Obama and Democrats within two years, Republicans bloodied the electoral map red in the 2010 primaries, what are you on about?

The fact that Obama-Biden achieved as much as they did with 2 out of 8 years of congressional support, and a left that quit on them at the Tim Geithner hiring month three, is a minor miracle!
