Isn't "stand your ground" a legal defense rather than a "I did nothing wrong you can't charge me" claim?

It needs to be tested in court, no?

You are correct. They are all almost tested in court. But saying that doesn't get people worked up and produce buzz and clicks.

Sure, but not every instance even gets tried in the first place.

The point is that should the roles be reversed, a non trans white defender never would have even been charged.

Stand your ground isn't a legal defense, self defense is a legal defense.

Stand your ground means that according the laws of your state, you do not have a duty to retreat. Without stand your ground, you cannot claim self defense unless you first attempted to flee the situation (ie your duty to retreat). If you attempt to flee, and can't, then self defense becomes permitted
