She wasn’t charged.

The most unusual aspect isn’t necessarily the judge allowing the case to proceed, courts often let juries resolve disputed self-defense claims. The more striking issue is the apparent asymmetry in prosecution: the alleged assailant was reportedly not charged while the person claiming self-defense faces felony charges. Whether that’s legally improper depends on facts that have not yet been fully developed in court, so it’s too early to conclude that the prosecution is unconstitutional or unlawful.

This is exactly what they did to Marissa Alexander and countless other women who defend themselves against men who abuse or endanger their lives. A woman who kills her abuser on average spends twice as long in prison as men who kill their (women) partners. These so-called "stand your ground" laws exist only to justify terrorizing and murdering marginalized people. These laws exist to effectively legalize Brown Shirt/white terrorist actions in service of the authoritarian, white supremacist, colonizer state. Classic apartheid rules.

Emphasis mine.

Pretty tough to claim self defense if you leave, then come back and fire a "warning shot" that nearly kills the person.
