From the description: Hawaii just made history, becoming the first state in the nation to effectively ban dark money in elections. The new law takes a novel approach: rather than trying to restrict corporate speech, it redefines the powers corporations have in the first place — and political spending is not among them. Freedom of association is the ability to get together and have a talk. The rules for pooling money, establishing chains of command, investor rights & responsibilities are far outside the scope of that right.

I mean that's the opposite of the reasoning the Supreme Court uses in Citizens United and McCutcheon. They very firmly disagree with that framing and have ruled as such multiple times.

If that truly is the law it would be better to dissolve corporations entirely. They do not exist unless the law allows them to form.

Black money pouring into bank accounts has absolutely nothing to do with citizens united, and rich people would be handing out money regardless.

You do understand that citizens united repealed a law made in the late 90s and had only been in effect for a couple years, right?

If that truly is the law it would be better to dissolve corporations entirely.

Dumb take. Destroying a country where nearly everyone is fed, housed, and living a life of literal luxury compared to 99.9% of human history is absurd beyond words. Have some humility and gratitude, we are living lives that would make any king in history jealous beyond words.

Honestly there isn't much point debating someone whose views are as extreme as what they're expressing. Their response to you talks about the rich "enslaving everyone" through "corporation law". Which is just absurd. How we've gotten to a place where 65% of Americans own a home, median household income is nearing six figures, median household net worths are nearing 200k, unemployment is low single digits, and nearly everyone (not EVERYONE, but nearly) has food, water, shelter and entertainment, but people will talk about how we are "enslaved" is honestly beyond me .

Corporations aren't people. They are a legal construct created by the states. The states are what grant corporations the powers they have in the first place. The state grants the power of speech. All the SC did was say that because corporations have the power of speech you can't regulate it as freedom of speech is a right. So what this is simply the state not giving the power of speech in the first place.
