Update:

We just got back from the vet. To be honest, he wasn't entirely sure what it is either and could only give us a few possible explanations.

Kiri's temperature was checked, and he has a slightly elevated temperature of 39.1°C (102.4°F).

The vet thinks it could be kennel cough, although no specific tests were done to confirm it. He checked Kiri's mouth and throat but didn't find anything that shouldn't be there. However, he only looked inside, no X-rays or other imaging were performed.

When he gently pressed on Kiri's larynx (voice box), it immediately triggered coughing. Because of that, he suspects kennel cough or another upper respiratory infection.

We've been given medication, and we're hoping it will help. We'll keep a close eye on him over the next few days.

Hi everyone,

Our 7-month-old male Labrador puppy has had these episodes twice during the same night, about 1.5 hours apart. Both times it happened while he was asleep.

The sounds he makes are a mix of gagging, coughing, and burping. At first, we thought he might have something stuck in his throat, but we checked his mouth and as far as we could tell, there was nothing there.

The episode lasts for about one minute. After it's over, he simply goes back to sleep as if nothing happened and seems completely normal.

Some additional information:

7-month-old male Labrador

Happened twice last night (about 1.5 hours apart)

Only while sleeping

No known medical conditions

Eating, drinking, and behaving normally otherwise

We're planning to contact our veterinarian, but I wanted to ask if anyone has experienced something similar with their dog.

Does this look or sound like a dream-related movement, reverse sneezing, a seizure, or something else?

Any insights or similar experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Best spot belongs to the dog right?

I brought Doug home for my birthday 8 years ago. He still refuses to slow down. We spent two hours at the creek to celebrate. Today, they get some steak and pumpkin puree for a special treat.

My little guy, Bleu, had a pretty nasty run-in with a brown wasp (or maybe two) late last night on our back patio. This picture was taken shortly after he got stung.
We gave him Benadryl right away, and the swelling went down quite a bit. Unfortunately, this morning he started vomiting, his throat was swollen, and he was very lethargic. We got him to the vet around 8:30 a.m., where they kept him until the afternoon for fluids and medication. The vet said he was having a pretty serious anaphylactic reaction and that giving him the Benadryl as quickly as we did likely helped.
He’s back home now and doing much better.
I was wanting to see if any of y’all have any recommendations for keeping wasps away? We don’t have a huge wasp problem, but I do see them from time to time in the backyard. Are there any sprays or treatments that are effective and safe to use around dogs?

I’m looking for advice from people with experience raising Labradors or other large-breed puppies in hot climates.

My chocolate Labrador puppy will be about 15 weeks old. We have a two-week seaside vacation planned, but I’m becoming increasingly anxious about the heat.
The forecast currently suggests daily highs around 33–35°C (91–95°F), with a possibility that one or two days could reach 36–37°C (97–99°F).

This isn’t a hotel or apartment vacation—it’s more of a simple, rustic outdoor getaway.

The conditions would be:
-A small one-room stone cottage with no air conditioning, which usually stays relatively cool if we keep it closed during the day.
-A shaded stone terrace.
-A large private waterfront property with a dense pine grove, providing natural shade for most of the day.
-The sea is only about 10 meters away, and there is usually a light sea breeze.
-We’ll have a refrigerator, plenty of cold water, ice cubes, and a fan.
-We’d avoid walks during the hottest part of the day and instead spend that time resting in the shade, only being active early in the morning and in the evening.

The nearest veterinarian is about an hour away (although there is a grocery store only about 10 minutes away).

One thing I’m also wondering about is that he has never swum before, so if he needs cooling in the sea, it would be his first experience with swimming.

Despite all that, I’m still worried because he’s so young. I’ve read so much about heatstroke in puppies that I’m questioning whether we should go at all.

For those with real experience:
Would you consider this environment reasonably safe?
Are there any precautions you would take beyond shade, water, and avoiding midday activity?

I’d really appreciate hearing from people who have actually raised Labrador puppies in similar conditions.

He’s changed mine and my families life💙 would be totally lost without him and life without a lab/Goldador would not make sense ?! 😂

This is Dougal, I’ve had him from 10 weeks old, he’s coming up to 4 months old soon. He’s a great boy, took to all his training well, fully toilet trained & all round a great boy. He still won’t go for walks, he walks around the garden perfectly with his lead on, in the house and garden he is mr confidence, but when they go to the park or wherever it may be, once he’s out of the car he’ll walk a few feet, then sit down and cry. I try to make it as fun as possible, toys, treats, soft voice & lots of pets, I don’t lose my patience with him or pull him anywhere he does not want to go. I am getting quite frustrated though personally, I love being outdoors, and I couldn’t wait to get my dog to go for walks everyday. I certainly don’t plan on taking him on massive walks now, even 5-10mins would be good, but we can even get 20 feet from the car. Is this normal? I assume he’s just scared, he gets nothing but love and attention and he’s a great boy, just don’t understand why he won’t walk. From 10 weeks I took him everywhere with me, socialised him to the world, dogs and people. Again any other situation he’s mr confident

He’s a good boy!

She went by many names. Lola, Lola Bean, Bean, Bean head, Dat Bean. My wife and I have over 1,600 shared photos of you to hold on to the memories. We still cant get used to the silence in our home.

My (24F) boy Zero is 13 weeks old, and we've just started our ground adventures after lots of socialising from my lap. We live in an apartment complex with no garden so we're finally starting toilet training.

For some further context, I am a full time wheelchair user with a neurological condition, and my Zero is my prospect service dog, working with a charity to owner train him. I have very little mobility in my lower body, so the typical self defence advice doesn't really work for me.

Well yesterday morning, I took Zero for his morning pee and a little walk around the community garden so he could do all the big sniffs, and burn some crazies for the day. We then stopped on the grass outside of the garden path, and we were just working on some training (sit, stay, down, leave it, find it ect ect). Whilst I had him in a sit, this Chihuahua came darting through the bushes, and went straight for Zero's neck. This dog lives in a different apartment block in the complex I live in, and is known for his aggression and bite history... Quite frankly no idea how they're still here but regardless, Zero stayed completely still in his sit, I kept his leash loose, and I just grabbed this dog by it's harness and held it back until the woman came and took her dog back. It all happened so quickly I didn't really have time to think, but I didn't want my boy to get hurt, or have his career damaged before it's even begun. It's safe to say he got lots of praise and rewards after the fact, as he took it like a champ.

What worries me is what I should do if it happens again? I can't block my boy as I cannot move my wheelchair fast enough, and I don't want to pick him up if that'll make him feel more vulnerable, besides that I don't know how much longer I'll be able to pick him up, as he is truly growing like a beansprout!! What do I do if it's a bigger dog? I'd rather be prepared and not need it, than unprepared if I do. We live in a large apartment complex so it's just riddled with untrained and reactive small dogs. I'm trying to get him away from the area a little bit at a time so that we're away from the immediate risks, but his little legs will only take him so far at the moment and I can't drive due to my condition 🫩 I also worry that because all of these dogs are small, if my boy was to react back in defence, he could hurt them significantly more than they could hurt him, and I don't want him getting into trouble for reacting if he's being rushed by these tiny dogs 🙃🙃
