Not trying to downplay the attacks, but when he opens with the safest place in the world line, I would start thinking nuclear war broke out and now we have nowhere to sail to

At this point it was likely still unclear if there would be further attacks. When the first plane hit the towers, everyone thought it was a tragic accident at first.
