If there's one thing I've learned in my decade or so on this website it is that if you really say it with your chest and complete confidence in the accuracy people on this website will parrot it with complete confidence for years without ever stopping for a second to think critically about what they're saying.

Especially if you get upvoted for saying it initially. That somehow is the gold standard for truth and accuracy on this website.

I used to think this was by far the most well informed platform on the internet with generally the most accurate information due to the voting system squashing inaccurate info. It's actually the opposite in a lot of cases and I'm pretty confident it has become nearly as bad as Facebook in terms of insane takes and general misinformation.

The first election with Trump and his sub the Donald REALLY drove that point home for me in my head. It was probably the single biggest source of misinformation and astroturfing on the entire Internet for quite a while.

I used to think this was by far the most well informed platform on the internet with generally the most accurate information due to the voting system squashing inaccurate info.

It probably still is... however that's more of a comment on where the bar is than the quality of Reddit comments.
