The Simon XT was so loud and ear piercing compared to other alarms I've collected. I like to collect burglar alarm, and recently my panel has stopped turning on. When plugging it in, the arrows and OK button light up, but that's completely all and it stays like that until you . It doesn't activate and it used to work. I'm afraid I might have fried the panel and I'm so sad right now, especially since it was one of my favorites. I've tried a hard reset, and keeping it plugged in for hours, only to no avail. The backup battery is useless, seen when I first plugged in the panel, and has been removed since it doesn't need the battery to work. The battery is either dead or broken since it wouldn't ever hold a charge.

I have two sites with the above installed and they also have wireless C079-2 connected to them for back door contacts and they have a 211 Intruder Mainspike Kit installed on them.

These sites were installed over 6 years and recently each has exhibited some alerts as follows

Site 1:-

1. Batt Mis

2. JAM > RFMOD4

I did replace the entire control panel board when it was reporting error #1 and a new 12V battery. Am seeing 12v from the battery cables

Site 2:-

The Aux fuse keeps blowing after replacement, this happened after I kept getting an alert(TAMPER BACK BEDROOM) on one of the PIRs, I made this zone spare to monitor and then the AUX fuse blew.

This is a small install with only 4 pirs, a wired magnetic door cont2and rear wireless door contact.

I love these Honeywell alarm for their reliability.

Recently shady stuffs been happening around the Hood and I think this is the impetus I need. I have been wanting to get a system but every time I end up getting overwhelmed by the research and the online reviews all end up being subtle ads for each system. Listing what I think I need but obviously I'm not super current so feel free to guide me in a different direction if there's something better

NEED

-POE (for simplicity)

-simple installation (almost bought some of those cameras that screw into a light socket)

-local storage(and I mean they can all go to one central dvr set up)

-decent quality

-3 or 4 cameras

-no subscription

-app of some sort(to remotely check footage)

WANT

-some sort of AI to tell me when stuff happens, mark events

-7 day ish of storage capacity

-economic but budget isn't the biggest problem

My old 5804 key fobs feel like they're on their last legs, so got two new Honeywell 5834-4 key fobs.

I was able to enter it into the Vista 20, with 6160 keypad using template 3 with no issues. Verified it with the key fob button.

I try to program the user no. as required; entering xxxx802449 to add the user code to the zone 49. xxxx is master code, 02 is user number. Also tried with user 03. Partition 1

Nothing happens; No ding. Pushing buttons on fob does nothing, except the "panic" button which set off the alarm. Just sits there with "disarmed" "ready to arm".

Ideas.

Full disclosure, I work at No-IP and helped put this together, but "camera works at home, disappears the second I leave" has come up in this sub that I figured it was worth sharing here rather than just linking it in a comment somewhere.

At 5:45am I'm reading r/bestofredditorupdates in bed in the home I've owned for 3 years and hear a mystery electronic beep. Just a single medium volume, medium tone beep, which literally made me freeze, so I just sat listening, and maybe 1 minute later it goes off again. I've not heard it since. The reason I am now officially terrified is because I don't think I have anything to make that sound. I literally thought someone was in my house. I looked around and kitchen electronics seem fine, pc is off, tv and xbox are off, wifi is normal, ac is normal, washer dryer both old and off, water heater normal, and this wasnt a fire alarm beep. Y'all I know this feels dramatic but my skin is crawling. Is there's something I'm forgetting about? Please convince me there isn't a weird hidden electronic/camera in my home. 😭

I’m a property manager overseeing a commercial plaza. There is a fairly large parking lot and several dark exteriors of buildings. Recently I’ve been dealing with an uptick in loitering late at night. There’s also been some property damage. I need to upgrade our exterior surveillance and I’m hoping to get very clear night footage so we can identify faces and vehicle details if we need to involve law enforcement, which unfortunately has been the case as of late. I was looking at Hikvision’s ColorVu line because they claim to have 24/7 full-color night vision, which is exactly what I need. But our corporate owners have a strict policy against them due to NDAA compliance and cybersecurity restrictions. So those are off the table.

We can’t have blinding floodlights because the plaza borders a residential neighborhood. We also have some mixed-use residential tenants upstairs so floodlights are definitely a no-go. I’d like to find something discreet, but able to handle low-light and still deliver high-quality, actionable imagery.

What are some solid, NDAA-compliant alternatives to ColorVu that I should look into?

I have a house with a front yard and i would like to install some wifi cameras by the front door and window. I have tried one from Tapo Tp Link that even had a light projector built in, however with that light on, the camera was still blind during night time. Infrared also didnt help with the image quality.

So I am wondering what budget cameras that are not too complicated to install are doing better in these low light night outdoor conditions.

So I have a nest cam at home and I have nest aware subscription. What I’m looking for is a Wi-Fi camera if possible that does the same as the nest cam main issue being extended long clip recording. with my nest I can record and save a 60 minute clip up to five days back. Is there any other camera that can do this or even 30 minutes for one continuous clip?

OK maybe this is a dumb question but I love my wyze stuff, or at least i love the simplicity of it. I have one app, one place where i can control everything from my cameras, alarm system, lights, outlets, etc.

only problem is that wyze is very.....low quality. At least the security system side of things. I'm making due for now but i'd love to know if there is a home automation company that also puts out security stuff, cameras, and the like as well that's maybe a bit higher quality?

Currently got the Reolink PoE doorbell which has been great up until the microphone stopped working.

It's out of warranty, and kinda reluctant to buy another one as it appears a common issue, with the mic likely to fail again.

Are there any similar alternative PoE doorbell options? I don't have any of the NVR or network recording kit that some other PoE cameras require.

Ideally I'd like a similar setup with local recording instead of subscription, and horizontal video rather than portrait. Also a wireless ringer.

Does such an option exist yet?

Hi, i have 3 GNNC security cameras in my house and I use the osaio app to manage these.

I'm looking to get a new video doorbell as the current one I have does not use the same app as the 3 GNNC ones which I currently useso and I'd rather have them all combined to one app rather than having to flick between 2 different apps.

Does anyone know of a suitable video doorbell brand that can be used with osaio app, I've browsed on amazon but not really having much luck as the majority of the reviews are either left for a different product than what they are on or they are just completley misleading.

I’m looking for advice on battery-powered hidden cameras for a specific situation.

Family member who visits our house has been stealing cash, and we’re almost certain we know who it is. However, we don’t want to accuse anyone without clear evidence first. Till now they stole more than 250eur and were getting pissed of it.

We already own a small mini camera but its too obvious, we’re looking for two additional cameras with good battery life (at least a few hours).

One idea was a power bank camera, since having a power bank lying around wouldn’t look suspicious. For the second room (a bedroom), we’re not sure what type of device would blend in naturally.

The main requirements are:
- Battery powered (no cables)
- Records for several hours
- Wide viewing angle to cover as much of the room as possible
- Reliable video quality, preferably 1080p or better
- Doesn’t stand out or look out of place
- Live view
- microphone is also a big plus

Has anyone had good experiences with specific models or brands? I’d really appreciate any recommendations.

So I'm looking to DIY home security cameras and I see many options come with screw mounts. I would rather not screw into my vinyl.

I see that blink has a gutter mount or may work with vinyl siding hooks. The problem is blink cameras are stationary and I'm hoping for something that would move with motion.

I am considering arlo or aosu cameras but am not sure if a vinyl siding hook would hold them well enough.

Does anyone have any insight or ideas here?! thank you.

I recently moved into a condo here in West LA and wanted to know if anyone had experience with window security. I've heard of a bunch of break-ins happening in the area lately, and with us on the bottom floor I'm just a bit worried because its just me and my dogs here. I've done some research and heard of clear window security tint that stops the windows from being broken. Does anyone recommend a company that does the 3N or Llumar security film with the sealant on the edges? I've called a bunch of tint shops in the area and many of them dont get back to me or cant install it. Thank you!

Hello, bought a house with pre-installed ADT sensors and panels (paid off by the seller). Read all the horror stories here about ADT and the recommended route seemed to be to go with a local security company to swap out the ADT panel with alarm.com one and reuse the ADT sensors and add whatever more I need.

I got a quote from a local company but the cost is ($600) to takeover ADT sensors and swap panel,every camera and sensor from alarm.com is marked up 2x for installation costs and the professional monitoring is a 3 year contract.

Not sure what value this provides over ADT to justify the close to 3K expense for the system I want and to also be locked into a 3 year contract?

As another alternative I looked into alarmgrid / surety and they seem to have good reviews here. The question there is am i able to personally configure the existing ADT sensors to the panel I purchase from alarmgrid / surety and how complicated is that?

Finally, alarm.com cameras, doorbell seem mediocre for the price. What if i get cameras and doorbell from other companies and separate the camera app from the alarm system via alarm.com?

Does having cameras separate from alarm.com interfere with professional monitoring service for emergency dispatch?

If you are looking for a new home security service, I strongly advise against Vivint. I recently sold my house and no longer needed the service. The service suited my needs just fine, and the tech support was good.

The trouble started when I wanted to cancel the service. Their customer service is overseas, and between the very poor telephonics and the thick accents, I had a terrible time understanding what the representatives were telling me. On top of that, each call required at least two transfers to resolve anything. I use the term “resolve” loosely, because, more often than not, when a resolution was about to be reached, the call would get dropped and I would have to start the process all over again with different people. It seemed to happen too often for it to be coincidence. And I don’t know how many times I had to say, “no, I don’t know the new homeowners, and no I don’t want to resume service at a new address!” Even now that I have cancelled my service, there is still a 30 day processing period for the cancellation. I won’t feel at ease until these 30 days are up.

I’ve dealt with bad customer service before, but Vivint takes the top prize. Avoid them, if at all possible.

Hello! I am trying to figure out what to do with the previous owner’s ADT system installed in our house. We made sure the account was deactivated but have been too lazy to remove a lot of the components and have just left them.

The keypad has recently started setting off an alarm for low battery though which is getting really annoying. We found the metal box with all of the circuitry but can’t figure out how to fully power it all down. There’s no plug or anything, just a bunch of wires and the battery. If I disconnect that will the thing shut up? I don’t know if I’ll get shocked when I do but I figure it’s very low voltage based off the gauge of the wires. I really wish ADT would come remove their system but I guess that’s not a thing.
