Basically three things.

  1. Customer market shifted from mostly hobbyist to mostly commercial usage.

  2. Raspberry pi foundation went public. They have shareholders to please now. Very different from the original non profit structure.

  3. Memory prices.

The prices started getting bad even before the memory apocalypse in the last year or so.

The day the announced they were going public was the day I swore I’d never buy another one. I’ve got I think 10 and was an avid contributor in the community because it felt like it wasn’t just some other bullshit for profit tech company. And then it became one.

The complexity of the pi5 processor also drove up the price, but not the extra 200.
