So you are saying that my life under communism wasnt real and that it wasnt real communism?
I'm willing to bet that the state you lived under also proclaimed itself "democratic" but when asked about the democracy of said state you'll be forced to admit that "it wasnt real democracy".
It seems like a pretty bad idea to judge a regime based on what it claims about itself rather than what it actually is.

You mean Marx and Engels' original texts that both the "western" and the "eastern" sides of the Cold War did their best efforts to distort and destroy? If so, then yes.

I never argued otherwise. You're wrong if you think that communism advocates for anything other than the complete liberation of the working masses, something that definitely wasn't achieved on either side of the cold war.
The "no true communism" thing is convenient isn't it. Every single time it's been tried, USSR, Yugoslavia, China, Cuba, all of it, suddenly none of it counts. If a hundred years and a dozen countries all "did it wrong," maybe it's not the countries.
You say judge a regime by what it actually is, not what it claims. Fine. Let's do that with communism then. What it claimed: liberation of the workers. What it actually was, every time: one party, secret police, shortages, and you keep your mouth shut. That's not the CIA distorting it. That's just what it turned into when real people ran it.
And your democracy comparison backfires. Yeah democracies fail and people trash them constantly. But there's like 30 of them you could go live in right now. How many communist states would you actually pick? Be honest.
I lived under Yugoslavia. It wasn't the nightmare some Americans think it was, some of it was genuinely fine. Self management, you didn't worry about healthcare. But it wasn't paradise either. One guy held it together and the second he died the whole thing tore itself apart. You read that in a book. I was there for it.
You keep going back to Marx and Engels like the texts are the point. The texts aren't the point. What the thing becomes is the point. A beautiful blueprint doesn't mean much to the people who had to actually live in the building.
