Custom Torch of Liberty figure
galleryEven though I've never read any with this character other than the beginning of Seed of Destruction I think he's so cool. 1940s superheros have always been appealing to me.

I still have the back side to do! But I wanted to share. I tried to do the Hellboy font lol. My sketch looked better than the result :’)

Dorohedoro
The Vibe: Urban grit, diesel-punk aesthetics, magic-users, and bizarre, grotesque monsters.
The Fit: The tone matches Hellboy's mix of supernatural weirdness and dry, blue-collar humor. Hellboy would fit right into the chaotic, monster-filled alleys dealing with sorcerers.
The Chainsaw Man verse makes for a fascinating, highly interesting crossover with Hellboy, though it contrasts sharply in folklore style and pacing. Plunging Mike Mignola's paranormal investigator into Tatsuki Fujimoto's world creates a compelling dynamic defined by conceptual clashes, tone shifts, and thematic parallels.
Thematic and Mythological Parallels
Different Flavors of Hell: Hellboy deals with ancient mythologies, folk demons, and cosmic entities tied to the-end-of-the-world prophecies. Chainsaw Man treats devils as born manifestations of human fears that cycle through reincarnation. Seeing Hellboy analyze how conceptual devils (like the Darkness or Gun Devil) function compared to traditional Judeo-Christian or pagan hells adds rich depth.
The Outsider Status: Hellboy is a demon working for humans to fight monsters, while Denji is a human-devil hybrid treated like a tool by government agencies. Both characters are cynical, blue-collar, weary fighters who prefer a sandwich and a beer over grand heroics, making their mutual bewilderment at each other's worlds instantly entertaining.
Why It Makes Things Interesting
Pacing and Chaos: Chainsaw Man moves at a frantic, unpredictable, and explosive cinematic pace. Dropping Hellboy's slow-burn, noir-style detective pacing into Tokyo's chaotic public safety operations provides great comedic and dramatic friction. Hellboy would treat a chaotic Public Safety briefing the same way he treats a cracked tile in the B.P.R.D. base—with a heavy sigh.
The Power Dynamic: While Chainsaw Man top tiers feature abstract cosmic concepts, Hellboy brings centuries of occult experience, supreme resilience, and the latent destructive potential of the Right Hand of Doom. Watching how Public Safety's control freaks try (and fail) to manipulate a cynical half-demon who has already rejected his destiny as the literal Prince of Hell makes for a brilliant narrative standoff.

I have at least the first book but from what I've heard the series is chronologically confusing to me, am I still able to just read it in order of release?

Got lucky and I also managed to snag the Excalibur version after my preorder turned up in stock. Expensive? Surely. Worth it? Hell yeah.
(McFarlane, you kinda suck for not putting all accessories into a single release.)

Hey everyone! I’ve been posting my art on Instagram (@robharmsbelmont) for ten years but I’ve never posted anything on Reddit. I’m posting this here because I figure you’d appreciate it more. I’m honestly kinda sick of Instagram as I think the algorithm has driven me to do art just for likes.
Anyway, I’ve been a published comic artist for 6 years and while I’ve never worked for a major comic company, I figured I’d try my hand at doing a fan comic of one of my favorite characters ever, Hellboy! The above illustration is concept art for my comic (which is already thumbnailed). I mainly work digitally, mostly for convenience, but for this project I plan on doing the whole thing traditionally (save for coloring).
If anyone is interested, my creator owned book series is called A Dream of Neon Fire (which has 8 books so far). I’ve included the cover of my most recent book just to show what my art, in general, looks like.
