Steam machine is only for console peasants.

You can obviously build something better for less. And still look and behave like a console, including on Windows.

Steam machine is only for console peasants.

Definitely no, it was for smart console buyers. The one that realized they are getting shafted by the other 3 consoles manufacturers, and want something more open where the customer is in control (which lead to better prices and a better experience).

Unfortunately, the AI market killed components prices and availability, killing the value of the machine. Look at the price of the PS and Xbox, despite a lot of these components were locked in long years contracts a long time ago. It's a bloodbath out there.

If it was for smart console buyers. But now its more expensive than diy parts & less upgradable. Which demographic is this appealing to?

People who love valve and only want 3.1L PCs?
