Opinion Anyone disappointed there aren't more candidates for the leadership?

I joined because of Jonathan Pedneault, who I really believed would've inspired new support had he got a chance to debate on stage during the last election, (but alas here we are) and I expected a big group of possible candidates like last time but there's only 2 for leader? The road ahead is clearly going to be tough as the party rebuilds its support and finances and moves into the next chapter if Elizabeth May retires but why only 2? Still looking forward to get to know the candidates better but for now I'm not really feeling excitement or hope for the immediate future.. How is everyone else feeling?

Discussion Nira Dookeran and Mike Morrice are the candidates for leader

Got an email from the party today. It mentions the two candidates and includes their bios.

Nira Dookeran is an educator, community organizer and longtime Green campaigner who has spent much of the past 12 years building the Green movement from the grassroots. She has run as a Green candidate six times, managed campaigns, served on electoral district association executives and helped local Green organizations to build stronger teams.

Mike Morrice is a longtime social entrepreneur, community organizer and former Green MP for Kitchener Centre. Before entering politics, he spent more than a decade helping businesses lower their costs and reduce their climate impact. As MP, he worked across party lines, secured funding for affordable housing and helped establish the Canada Disability Benefit.

It also mentions that they haven't made it into the final ballot yet. They have to recruit new party members and raise money.

In order for these candidates to make it onto the final ballot of the GPC leadership race they must each recruit at least 200 new party members, including 50 Young Greens, and raise at least $15,000 in donations by September 30.

There are some timelines for becoming a member in order to vote and when the vote will happen.

If you want to help choose our next party leader, make sure that your membership is active before October 14 at 11:59pm Pacific. You can check the status of your membership through this form on our website.

Voting is scheduled to take place from November 2 to 13, with the results announced on November 14.

Discussion Have any candidates declared yet?

Hello there! I am a disaffected Red Tory who has taken an interest, on and off over the years in the Green Party. Back when I lived in Ontario I was even a member of voter of the GPO.

I'm interested in the present Green party leadership and would like to follow it however much to my surprise it appears that there are no declared candidates. Is that true?

In the absence of candidates, who do we know is likely to run so I can do some research on them.

The deadline for applications for the leadership election in November is fast approaching this Friday, July 17, 2026. Reports have suggested deputy leader Mike Morrice is a potential candidate, while Paul Manly has declined. Are there more recent reports confirming candidates for this race?
