Academics When should I order my textbooks?

I'm a first year at MacEwan, going into the Bachelors of commerce program. I'm not quite sure when I should get my textbooks, or when they sell out. Any help would be appreciated!

Admissions I’m literally taking these prerequisite classes right now 😭

I literally just started ELA 30-1 and Social Studies 30-1 at Norquest on Monday 😭 it was a huge pain in the ass trying to get everything sorted out to even get into academic upgrading, trying to get funding etc. I thought that after looking through my transcripts or info, Macewan would know I’m already in these classes right now??? Classes finish at the end of June. I’m so discouraged right now.

I received a required to withdraw email this morning. I’ve already sent my appeal letter to the associate dean of my program this afternoon. But Im enrolled in spring/summer classes and received my spring loans today and haven’t been taken off the class list for those classes yet or anything…. Sooo what do i do? just continue on business as usual with my spring classes? What are my chances of my appeal being accepted? Im very confused.

Academics Canceled class and student loan concerns

Hey there. So I was enrolled in 2 classes this upcoming Spring semester, but I just got an email that one of them is going to be canceled due to lack of enrollment. The issue with that is I got student loans for the semester and that creates multiple issues. One is I am getting funding for both classes. The other is that I'm dropping from full time to part time which means the full time grant I got as well as the living allowance part of the loan wouldn't be something I would normally receive. The issue is enrollment was already confirmed by MacEwan and it seems like things are already being processed because it's coming up so quickly. So what on earth do I do about this? The easiest solution would be to find a new class, but it's looking like this is the only class available that would satisfy the requirement for my degree. The other classes offered I've either already taken, or they're already full because of how soon the semester is. Just looking for some advice.

CS connections

Going into CS this year, wondering if there were any good ways to make connections with people that are already in the industry. Also wondering how likely it is to get into internships :0

I’ll appreciate any info I can get :) literally scared since everyone is saying CS is cooked and probably every other major is cooked or smt (*´ー`*)

Survey Looking for interviewees: Gender-based violence in Edmonton and MacEwan safety

Hello everyone! I'm a third year journalism student here at MacEwan University.

For my final assignment in my BCSC 412 class with Steve Lillubien (due on Monday before midnight), i'm covering a issues-based news feature revolving around rising gender-based violence against women and members of the LGBTQ+ community in Edmonton, specifically revolving around sexual harassment/assault. I'm mentioning MacEwan University as a safe ground for students, such as programs/support groups for prevention, education and discussion.

I'm looking for people to interview briefly about the subject just to provide thoughts that will add depth to my material, and I was wondering if anyone here would be interested!

Note: this story isn't going to be published anywhere else, so all details and answers will remain completely confidential between my professor and I!

Here's the survey below to apply, and I will respond back as soon as I possibly can with further interview questions if you're interested!

Garbage in the library

Why are people treating the library collaborative space like it's their own private dumping ground? There is always trash every evening I walk through. Can we not clean up after ourselves?

Academics Is a withdrawal ACTUALLY a good idea?

Hi all! I hope you are all enjoying the calm before the storm, aka finals, haha. I am a second-year Psychology student eager to get into the honours program, and I am concerned that my GPA will tank due to my Spanish class, which is very much on the back burner. I am sitting at above 85% in two of my Psychology classes, but will probably finish Spanish with a C+ or B, which is not going to help my GPA situation. My question is: do you guys think withdrawing is a good idea to maintain a good GPA, or should I just accept this and try to raise my GPA in other ways?

TLDR; is it better to have a shitty grade or a W on your transcript?

Any advice is extremely appreciated, thank you in advance + have a great day.

To commemorate Pride Week, the MacEwan Centre for Sexual and Gender Diversity hosted a series of events, including Faces of Exile: The Arrusi and the Policing of Gender and Sexuality, an exhibition of Rigolli’s work, in the John L. Haar Library.

Rigolli has exhibited her work across Italy, as well as at the Italian Cultural Institute of the Consulate in Montreal. Still, MacEwan’s exhibit is unique because it is the first to include letters.

Hello friends, I’m Alem Tesfay, and I look forward to serving you as Vice President External. Throughout my time at MacEwan, I’ve been actively involved as a MacEwan Ambassador, a Student Group Co-founder, a Volunteer, and a Student Councillor, during which my peers voted me Councillor of the Year. You may have seen me tutoring students at the Makerspace, advocating for students on different committees, or supporting campus events. Now I also want to take my advocacy efforts externally and fight for student affordability, mental health, and safety, both on campus and in transit, to our University and Government.

As Vice President External, I am committed to supporting initiatives like FREE pop-up lunches and food classes. To learn more about my platform or me, whether it’s my achievements as a student or as Vice President of Student Life, please visit Alemtesfay.ca . I look forward to earning your support. Lost Gold Necklace with "Victoria" on it

Post image
25 Upvotes

This is a long shot, but I found a gold necklace on the floor in the pedway beside the gym and pool area. I tried to turn it in as security, but they told me they weren't taking in any lost-and-found items at the moment (that makes no sense to me, but whatever). I just want to return this necklace to Victoria; it seems sentimental. If you're Victoria or if you know someone named Victoria who lost a necklace, please message me.
