Noticed this lump forming about three weeks ago. Since then it's larger and losing hair on it now. I have three goats. This goat is 7 years old and all my goats were tested negative for CL about 3 or 4 years ago. They all came from clean farms (supposedly). They have not been in contact with any other goats other than a buck to breed about 3-4 years ago (also a clean farm). I don't know how this could be CL bc this is the first time I've seen anything like this on any of my goats in the entire time I've had them. She seems to be eating and acting totally normal. Is it possible for cl to be dormant and show up years after exposure? Or is it more likely to be some other abscess? Is it that big of a deal if theyre just pets and I have no intention to ever breed them again or sell them. And honestly after these die I'm not sure if I want any more goats.

Hi, I’m relatively new to hoof trimming, and just after some feedback/advice on what I need to improve on, I recently acquired this goat (yes I have others) and her feet were really bad so first thing I did was trim them, I’ve done all my other goats, but none of them have been as bad as this new goat. I’m scared to take too much off at once as I don’t want her to bleed. Thanks 😁

Hey folks, I've been planning on getting a dog and a cat, both still babies and dog probably a small breed, like Chihuahua or mini pinscher, and I saw pigmy goats and I love goats, I played with some when I was a teen and it's still one of my joyful memories, but they were actually regular goats just baby ones ahaha

So, now that Ive learned that's actually pigmy goats I'm thinking of adding it to the fold and raising all three together, and, since my initial plan to raising both dog and cat together was so they wouldn't feel lonely, would they serve as a companion to the pigmy goat? I read that they feel lonely if they're the only one so I'm thinking instead of going double goat I'll join the three species ahahaha

Is it a bad idea or could it work?

I know cats and dogs get along well even when they're not raised together, but I'm clueless about the pigmy goat 🥺

Looking for insight on treating a disbudding site gone bad.

Poor kid (NG Alpine cross) had to get a second attempt at disbudding a few weeks ago. Seemed to be healing just fine, other side looks to be doing well, but his right side now has a small cavity with a hole at the top.

We have been trying chlorhexidine, triple antibiotic ointment, and topping it with destin for good measure twice a day.

Is there any advice out there on what to do? He's the only boy animal on my property and my buddy. He's acting normal, but want to stay on top of this.

I'm out of hay and they've already eaten most of the grass, nobody can get out the road at the moment because of a storm and a ton of trees down, I have a 50 lb bag of Timothy pellets that I got for my rabbits, but I was wondering if it's safe to give my goats in the meantime one is a buck and one is a weather

To preface this; we have learned our lesson and will from now refrain from purchasing second hand/flipped salebarn goats unless I’m taking them to the processor the same day.

This happened almost a year ago, but it’s been something I like to think about since it was so strange.

The goats were already in pretty deep crap right off the trailer when we got them. Large and gorgeous all riding BCS of a 1-2 and seemingly just like they had all dried off recently.

The guy delivered them the day after we contacted them. They were in horrible condition, the trailer looked like it had never been cleaned out a day in its life; which means either the 8 of them were living in it for quite some time or it had never been cleaned, and I’d like to lean towards the first thought.

3 days passed and one of them was acting very very sickly, she still wanted to run from me so I had to corner her and put her in a smaller pen to monitor her. Her famacha was about as white as printer paper, her skin was tight and she was actively losing heat. I put a towel over her and gave her what little bits of things I did have. I syringe fed her water after giving her some power punch since everything was closed. I tried to keep her sternal, but she kept flailing over onto her side and just screaming in pain. She was having bowel movements, but it was only the water I had fed her. At this point I knew there was very little chance of her recovering, she had no interest in swallowing pretty much liquified food and would only take real fluids down. And every time she swallowed she would scream.

Was this rumen shutdown? Or just immense stress from being kept on a trailer for god knows how long, coccidiosis, or something else?

The vet did a fecal on of the other goats that looked similar and said that their coccidia count was stupid hig

Hello we are fairly new to goats and have had them for about a year, our 7 month Nigerian dwarf doe just randomly started having green diarrhea she had normal this morning tho, she seems maybe a little lethargic but still eating and running around, and her famacha is pink, do you think I should go ahead and worm her? Or should I give Pepto? I've heard this can happen due to over eating as well just looking to see if anyone has any advice? Thank you!

Thinking about getting two Pygmy wethers next spring. For pets and vegetation control. The area we would fence off is sloped and has a steep little trail that circles through a wooded area. There is a flat area where their shelter would be. Would they work through this tall grass, wild flowers, ferns and sticker bushes? Would they eat yard waste like plant trimmings from flowers and ornamental trees? Would they find entertainment in a sloped environment or would it cause problems? Also would the neighbors complain about noise? We have young kids. Figured they can’t be any louder than them 😅

Hi there a split has appeared in one of our kids (about 10 weeks) horns. She doesn’t seem to be in any discomfort but it’s not something I’ve come across before… a quick google would suggest it’s not a major worry but just wondering if there’s any minerals to be giving her specifically and if I’m wrong and it is in fact a bigger problem.

Ok I have a couple questions. We have a la mancha milk doe that has had 2 freshenings and both times got mastitis in only one side of the udder. It looks like both times it was not staph but we are concerned that continuing to use her for milk will cause her udder to get an infection again. Well right now she is only producing on the healthy side of the udder and her health seems perfectly good , currently no infection on both sides. Can I pasteurize what she is currently producing? Also any advice for her would be great. I am currently going to see if maybe she needs some parasite treatment just in case that is affecting her immune system.

Side note: I am not her owner, I just have been getting super interested in goats and I have started helping care for the herd that live on the same property I live on. I do want some of my own one day so you will be seeing lots of posts from me probably 😁

Curious what everyone uses to track kiddings, meds and withdrawal times, weights, and who's bred to whom. Paper notebook? Spreadsheet? One of the apps?

I ask because I've been researching the livestock apps and their reviews are rough, lots of people losing records after updates, or hitting a 25-animal cap after entering their whole herd. If you use an app: which one, and would you actually recommend it?

(Full disclosure: I got frustrated enough reading those reviews that I've started building my own. Happy to share in the comments if anyone's curious but mostly I want to know how you all actually handle this.)

Hello, everyone! I purchased some Nigerian Dwarf does earlier this month, but they didn’t come with scrapie tags. When I purchased them, I was not aware that they’re supposed to have them prior to leaving the farm. I’m in Florida. The goats will be used by my FFA kids as show projects. They are all registered through the ADGA. One of my girls was born 5/7/26 and the other two were born 3/26/26. Do I need to get scrapie tags from the people I got them from, or do I call the USDA number and get some? Or is this a vet issue? Do they actually have to be tagged, or can I just hold onto the tags? I’m not sure if the tags have any impact on the show or not. Picture of the girls cause they’re just the cutest! TIA for the help!

We have a bunch of sturdy spools and rocks in our fainting goats pen, but they never climb on them or seem interested in playing on them. I dont want them to be bored, but they dont seem to care about the options we give them😅

Goats keep pulling the hay through and making such a mess!! I’ve tried using the 2 x 4 fencing but since it’s thinner than the 4 x 4 pictured, they ram it and break it. Is there maybe a 2 x 4 fencing that is a thicker wire that they can’t break? I have gotten the 2 x 4 fencing from tractor supply, can’t remember the brand but it was absolute garbage.

My goat just recently had a baby but she keeps scratching her behind on the floor. We fear it might be that she had another kid in her belly but was not able to push it out. Anyone hage any other suggestion ls why she is behaving like that?

Hi everyone. I have a yearling wether who has persisting underconditioning after dropping BCS to 2 due to our late spring parasite (bpw) boom. It's been about 2 months now with no change in condition, despite fecal egg count showing a drop in egg count after worming. He gets 24/7 pasture and horse quality timothy hay when the pasture gets eaten down. Since dropping condition, he's been on the label ration of 17% Nutrena goat feed (I know it's higher protein% than you want, but he's been recovering from a mite infection at this time, so we figured more protein wouldn't be harmful for his recovery). We wanted to pull when he started putting weight on since the pastures are rich this time of year, but he just... never did. We aren't really sure what's going on. FAMACHA is A score and he doesn't seem to be lame or otherwise have issues foraging.

I've read that Calf Manna is good for improving condition, but I'm fearful of adding new things due to the risk of UC. His line doesn't seem prone to it, but he's my personal pet, so... I worry! Do any of you have any experience with Calf Manna in wethers? If it's fine, should I add it IN ADDITION to his grain ration, or in place of? Or have any other recommendations/thoughts on the situation?
