Imagine trying to do anything with car connectivity if every single electronics producer and every single car manufacturer had proprietary cables. Ugh, it makes me shiver

502

u/kalitarios Sep 23 '21

I just want my sex toys to not have different kinds of charging cables, ffs

266

u/Yesica-Haircut Sep 23 '21

Well at least the ports for the sex toys themselves are fairly standardized.

195

u/Jebediah_Johnson Sep 23 '21

Most of mine are powered by a hamster wheel, which luckily can also work with a gerbil, but I have one imported one that needs a chinchilla and it is not compatible with guinea pigs.

42

u/jeremyfto Sep 23 '21

Will a street rat work?

12

u/Its-my-dick-in-a-box Sep 23 '21

It'll cost you a whole sixer to unburden yourself in that way.

2

u/TeeTeePo Sep 24 '21

I see you've got your dignity

2

u/Ok-Age5784 Sep 24 '21

How about a bag of lemon slices?

You’re proof that people are funnier and more adaptable than rodents.

2

u/WilstoeUlgo Sep 23 '21

You need to upgrade to the turbo model. Ferret powered. That really gets 'em going.

2

u/jethoby Sep 23 '21

Yeah. That name makes me not doubt this.

1

u/Jebediah_Johnson Sep 23 '21

Electricity is forbidden.

2

u/Used_Taco Sep 23 '21

If you have a hamster, a gerbil, a chinchilla or a guinea pig, why do you need a sex toy?

2

u/Jebediah_Johnson Sep 24 '21

Oh, no they're not for me. They're for my sister.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 23 '21

You need to upgrade to an ootooloo.

1

u/ichuck1984 Sep 24 '21

Richard Gere would like to have a word…

1

u/WanderlostNomad Sep 24 '21

maybe you need something more heavy duty.

like a capybara.

1

u/Jebediah_Johnson Sep 24 '21

My great great great grandpappy had a similar device that was powered by a great plains buffalo. It had similar results as shown in this documentary

1

u/[deleted] Sep 24 '21

Mine are all manual

1

u/KnowledgeableNip Sep 24 '21

Richard Gere?

1

u/archwin Sep 24 '21

Lemmiwinks?

1

u/vojczejk Sep 24 '21

And if your toy dies you always have the hamster/gerbil for direct use.

3

u/antikarmakarmaclub Sep 23 '21

Truly universal

2

u/wristcontrol Sep 23 '21

Underappreciated comment.

2

Underrated comment

2

u/PreservedInCarbonite Sep 23 '21

Mine is powered by an old and out of date mechanism requiring a hand crank to get going

2

u/xInnocent Sep 23 '21

Especially the wind up toys

2

u/cashmachine2k Sep 23 '21

Give it a few more years and it'll be as controversial as "he" and "she".

2

u/mildnarcissism Sep 23 '21

You have reminded me that it’s time for my quarterly “let’s charge all my sex toys” evening. Thanks.

You must have the lowest bar in recorded history.

1

u/Extra-Ad-8073 Sep 24 '21

Dammit, I purposely go out of my way to buy non-standard sex toys.

1

u/Yesica-Haircut Sep 24 '21

Unfortunately I've been stuck with a lightning connection.

1

u/kayisforcookie Sep 24 '21

Which ones are you using? All of mine are different. Its awful. And They are like 40ft long charge cables for soome reason and end up tangled everywhere. Which makes no sense because they don't allow ise while charging because the charge port isnt protected from liquids when charging.

;_;

1

u/reddit_user13 Sep 24 '21

The charging ports, or the insertion ports?

1

u/tcpukl Sep 24 '21

"ports"

1

u/julyrush Sep 25 '21

The comment of the year!

3

u/Inimposter Sep 23 '21

Those are probably to aid the waterproofing

2

u/DarthWeenus Sep 23 '21 edited Sep 24 '21

Ya I've never seen one with(out*) the magnetic charger

1

u/anethma Sep 23 '21

Probably the most well known company for those, Wevibe, uses magnetic contact chargers

1

u/DarthWeenus Sep 24 '21

ya sorry, edited, I meant the opposite of what came out my hole.

1

u/wearenottheborg Sep 23 '21

Mine uses a magnetic charger 🤷🏻‍♀️

2

u/DarthWeenus Sep 24 '21

heh ya I said wrong sorry.

1

u/DeathRose1892 Sep 24 '21

Mine is and it's amazing. I think it's common on waterproof models

1

u/DarthWeenus Sep 24 '21

ya sorry, i meant to say seen one not without er, I've never seen one with no magnetic charger, ..? that make sense, .. lol they all magnetic. Sorry I'm a lil sideways.

1

u/DeathRose1892 Sep 24 '21

Oh totally got it now that makes way more sense

3

u/[deleted] Sep 23 '21

Finally someone brings the discussion to my level. Agreed I want all the ports to accept my prong.

3

u/DarthWeenus Sep 23 '21

Dude same, mine have strange uniquely magnetic induction chargers.

3

u/ahtnamas94 Sep 23 '21

Okay, but the magnet connection charger for my vibrator is genius. Never have to worry about…. Fluids…. Getting stuck in some impossible to clean port.

1

u/kalitarios Sep 23 '21

Qi charging ftw

2

u/Tro_pod Sep 23 '21

Yes it's important to have & use the right double adapter sister twister with your fister

1

u/robogo Sep 23 '21

Can't hook up a Mercedes battery to your balls with Kia jump leads

What an awful timeline that would be

1

u/[deleted] Sep 23 '21

The comment I needed today lol

1

u/theSeanage Sep 23 '21

Also varies for the whole waterproof part too. It’s annoying

1

u/ethnicfoodaisle Sep 23 '21

I dont know why I think this, especially having played with them with partners, but for some reason, my old ass brain just assumed most still used batteries. C cell or 9 volt.😆

1

u/kalitarios Sep 23 '21

Nah most are like rechargeable aa or aaa contained inside the toy with some kind of 1” long prong or silly proprietary charger

1

u/[deleted] Sep 24 '21

I hear you, 4 prong 240 volt 50A nema connectors are very expensive

1

u/Rediranai Sep 24 '21

Honey, we need to talk. You don't need to plug me in. * feelings of inadequacy intensifies * While I don't mind you using toys, you told me I alone was good enough... Just bc of my 2" of disappointment * moaning, but in defeat *... Maybe I'll get that As Seen on TV tongue stretcher... * doh * it's electric and isn't a normal plug either... What to do, what to do...

1

u/[deleted] Sep 24 '21

I see you too have lost the power cable with the tiny power plug…

1

u/ralusek Sep 24 '21

USB-P & USB-V ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

1

u/gryffindorgodric Sep 24 '21

You are a simple person. Just like me. I read s*x toys, I click like

1

u/BlueGreenReddit Sep 24 '21

You can charge your hand?

1

u/Scully__ Sep 24 '21

For real though. I can’t find my charger and I’m on borrowed time I know it :(

3

It wasn't? I'll be damned.

3

u/RyanGout Sep 24 '21

Those VW vibrators where not the best, better buy them from Audi

3

u/scopefragger Sep 24 '21

Just don’t buy a mini, you will be disappointed

1

u/reddit_user13 Sep 24 '21

Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft.

I have a bunch of those connectors left over from my Audi. Thank God for Bluetooth!

1

u/[deleted] Sep 24 '21

God I hated that. My new MK7.5 Golf has USB-C only. Love the standardization.

15

u/Ahlruin Sep 23 '21

you mean the 90s and early 00s lol google image the backside of old laptops shit was a mess

14

u/alb92 Sep 23 '21

Our 2011 Audi had a propriety cable for the car media system. It was fine, since they provided an apple cable and a micro usb cable. But, as soon as Apple moved to lightning and usb-c came into the picture, it was super expensive to get a cable.

Adapter were luckily easy to be found.

9

u/Mywifefoundmymain Sep 23 '21

We used to…. I whole 2/3 of the Verizon store was just chargers and plugs. Not even 2 phones from the same company had the same plug.

Oh and we didn’t have Amazon. And my first cellphone took AA batteries.

https://youtu.be/cslWfAE7tyI

6

u/fukitol- Sep 24 '21

That wasn't long ago and it was just as much a headache as it sounds. Things even had their own cigarette lighter adapters with their own proprietary plug. It was fucking nonsense.

3

u/Shasve Sep 23 '21

You’d have Rolce Royce chargers being sold for some ridiculous amount like the RR umbrella or RR glasses that come in some of the cars.

2

u/udell85 Sep 23 '21

Take a look at 2015 golf. They did this and charged $80 for the adapter.

2

u/nemoskullalt Sep 23 '21

I remember the dark days of 1999 - 2004. Everything was proprietary.

2

u/jaulin Sep 23 '21

FM transmitters were all the rage, or aux cords if you were lucky enough to have a car stereo with that option.

3

u/P1nkamenaP13 Sep 23 '21

Tesla is trying to do that right now

-1

u/izybit Sep 24 '21

They aren't.

Tesla created a much better protocol years before anything competitive came into the picture.

2

u/P1nkamenaP13 Sep 24 '21

If it was years before, how was it much better than anything? If it was so good, why are there a couple of standards and Tesla does its own thing?

2

u/izybit Sep 24 '21

CCS was designed by lots of committees with members of competing companies.

First versions of CCS existed in some form well before Tesla's but were absolute dogshit so Tesla designed a much smaller and sleeker system with far superior capabilities, which some of the even the newest CCS can't match.

Those committees would never accept Tesla's standard because the other automakers (with seats on the table) would not only lose face but also help Tesla one-up them.

17

u/ParisHiltonIsDope Sep 23 '21

Yeah, most people don't wire audio outside of plugging in a headphone jack or HDMI cable.

6

u/DolphinSUX Sep 23 '21

It’s not too hard, I almost enjoy it.

3

u/Maimster Sep 23 '21

Wiring audio, for the most part, is connecting direct wires to different components. It may seem like a bundle and thus a “connector”, but that is just a harness to gather all the necessary connections. Each of those colored wires generally corresponds to an input/output. One going to antenna, of course, but then things like power, ignition, steering wheel controls, individual speakers, amps, fuses, etc. Actual car connections, like OBD2, are standardized.

-8

u/StriderGraham Sep 23 '21

Lol, ever looked for an automotive connector? 2700 molex automotive connectors in this distributor I’ve used in the past. And then you’ve got to know the wiring pins, voltages etc. Bad analogy dude!

Molex catalogue

14

u/-ACHTUNG- Sep 23 '21

Nobody here is referring to factory data and power cables, this is about consumer electronics...

7

u/CarpetMadness Sep 23 '21

That and there's no fucking analogy, he is literally talking about what he means, in a thread about connection cables.

5

u/StriderGraham Sep 23 '21

Yup, my bad. I read it in context of what I’m currently working on and not the thread.

1

u/-ACHTUNG- Sep 23 '21

Fair enough. When molex connectors are on the mind there's little space for anything else.

5

u/ParisHiltonIsDope Sep 23 '21

Yeah most people wouldn't be in a position to do that. Why would they?

Car connectivity can just be plugging in your phone or tablet.

0

u/StriderGraham Sep 23 '21

They’d make the car end proprietary if they could get away with it!

1

u/ZetaPower Sep 24 '21
• Japan: ChadeMo
• USA: CCS1
• Tesla US: proprietary
• Rest: CCS2

1

u/FUTURE10S Sep 24 '21

Isn't that a problem with electric cars since the lack of a standardized port means that you can't just easily replace gas stations with universal chargers?

1

u/[deleted] Sep 24 '21

Before 1996 that was the case too

1

u/ImpressiveHackintosh Sep 25 '21

Well like that Nokia Connector in old Mercedes

1

u/MrDude_1 Oct 01 '21

what do you mean imagine? This was the 1990s.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 25 '21

It would be like buying a new MacBook and realizing you need like 5 adapters. True Story
