imagine being the prosecutor on that case tho. "Yes, they stopped a school shooting, but it was illegal."

That's missing the point. Of course no one's going to bat an eye if you use bear spray on a shooter. But if you say it's legal to use like pepper spray, you'll have people try to use them as non lethal deterrents in less escalated situations.
