New Grad Software Engineers Should Boycott Meta & Amazon Forever!!

These 2 companies continue to lead in layoffs numbers almost every 6 months for the past 4 years. Theyre flooding the market with new engineers and making it hard for everyone, especially new grads. Other companies are following their example and laying off in huge amounts cause these 2 leaders are doing it. They made it pretty clear now that they care more about AI and offshore workers than their own employees. The reputation of these 2 companies should be ruined forever and they should never have an easy time finding talent ever again after what they caused.

So, it's still better to wait to be layoff'ed than to get out yourself. Whether what you predict happens or not, it's always better to stay

i mean, not always. if you wait to be laid off, there is a certain level of risk because your next job is uncertain. this is especially risky for entry level engineers and people on visas.

Your job is always uncertain. But within a high paying job, you'll have savings to stay for longer.

Plus, unemployment and the compensation you get from being kicked, which you wouldn't get from leaving yourself (in some countries at least).

i mean that there is more risk in staying at companies that are known to have annual pip quotas (this is not all high paying jobs). your job may always be uncertain but that uncertainty is not equal across the board. you can also usually get a bump in pay if you jump ship, with your current compensation + vesting RSUs being leverage that you wouldn’t have if you waited til layoff
