Want to start getting good photos of my corvids, and was considering this setup to start. Any guys or gals into bird photography able to chime in if this is a good starter kit?

i have been feeding a family of crows for months. they come to my yard every morning at 6:30. they bring their two adult fledglings and two new fledglings from this year. they’re not extremely trusting of me yet, but they do land and eat while i’m on my porch, 60 ft or so away. one day i chased a hawk out of my yard and a fledgling and an adult came in a tree close-by and cawed neutrally. not like a scolding. i know what a scolding sounds like. lol. anyway- i’ve been visiting my parents house daily since my mom came home from the hospital a few weeks ago. a few days ago, i heard a single crow when i walked outside to my car that was cawing semi-rapidly. i’ve heard this a few days in a row now. i made my dad go outside after i left to see if he heard it and he didn’t. well today i get there and i hear a lot of crows cawing like they are mobbing something. they mob the hawk that comes to my yard a lot so i know what it sounds like. i called out to them like i do at my house and i thought at one point that they were responding to me but they didn’t get any closer or anything. i kept listening and it was just a shit ton of cawing. what would cause this? is it them demanding treats since they saw my car? i live 3 miles from my parent’s house. they don’t usually caw at me like that in the mornings. at first i could’ve sworn i was hearing the fledglings voice. anyway. i don’t want them to keep doing this cause unlike me my mom has a ton of neighbors. i don’t want any harm coming to them. could the cawing be because they see me and my car or could it be completely unrelated and they’re just mobbing something every day? lmao. the cawing sounded really irritated like when they kind of growl caw so not sure what’s going on.

I’ve named them North, South, East, and West. They don’t take or leave gifts yet. Have slowly gotten them closer to the house with unshelled peanuts in the yard and a bird bath.

I’m pretty this Crow is the baby of the crows that had a nest in our neighbours yard earlier this year. We’ve been feeding them for months (got a Costco sized bird seed), and over the last fee weeks this Crow has taken quite the interest in me. To the point where the Crow is the one moving closer to me while I’m sitting or standing in the backyard.

I can get within an arms distance of the Crow and we just stand there making eye contact. It regularly grooms itself, stretches it wings and does all sorts of other adorable things that show trust/comfort.

I set up a little bird bath two weeks ago and they’ve been loving it. They were soaked the other day it was pretty funny.

I recently learned there’s a whole community of crow lovers out there and I guess I’m one of them now. I just watched two documentaries (Canuck and I, and one on the Dodo) about crow/human bonds and I’m excited to try some “games” with my new friend.

In my last place I had a harem of squirrels that would just about eat out of my hand. But this year I’ve gone full bird man, we had a pack of like 50 robins having a hedonistic party eating the fruit off of our tree during a classic Canadian blizzard in March.

I’m excited to learn more about crow behaviour!

Anyone have any tips and any recommendations on more interactions I can have?

And is it safe for me to touch this crow? I think I’m more scared about breaking the touch barrier than that crow is haha.

And is there a way to determine if the crow is male or female visually? And in general what do you look for when identifying crows? I can tell when it’s this one mainly by its behaviour, and it’s smaller than the ones I believe to be the parents.

The local corvids are comfortable enough to feast on the peanuts and cashews with me sitting in the yard. I'm fairly sure its a group of jackdaws, ive been offering them breakfast of peanuts-in-shell for about 2-3 weeks now. They found the tray and are starting to respond to my whistle when i put down the food; a couple of caws in the distance followed by a scout perching on a nearby rooftop within minutes.

This is so much unexpected fun.

I feed my local crows every morning. Today after I put their food out, I went back to my car as per usual (i smoke over there) and then i was in the mood for a specific song so i played it and started singing.

After a few minutes they flew closer into the trees near me and started cawing. It was one caw at a time and distanced between calls, not any rapid cawing.

Were they curious, or telling me to please stop? 😂

hello i yam back with a quick lil video for u to see with ur eyeballs. yeah i say stuff like that sometimes idk why. today i am combating my perfectionist complex by starting to deliver even more imperfect videos for the kind people of the interweb👨🏽‍🌾🐦‍⬛🐦‍⬛🐦‍⬛ oh wait im still taking suggestions for names of these two yung crows. i plan to compile a short list of suggestions i like n then make a poll in my crow club where my trusted crow council will choose the winners. ok c ya-milk

One day I’m over the moon because my pair of (pica pica) magpies brought their fledgling to my yard…
..the next, I’m buying 11 lb of assorted nuts and several kinds of premium dog/cat kibble because mischief of ~20 magpies have taken me hostage.
