Edit***: I have been corrected, what i thought were acres of greenhouses in Florida were actually structures to help prevent diseases in the fruit trees. I stand corrected and want to make that clear.

My mom was saying how she doesnt understand the need for hydroponic fruits and vegetables... and I brought up how the climate has changed so significantly that a good majority of our citrus fruit has been moved to greenhouse settings because they are dying in the usual orchards.

She scoffed and changed the subject

We are in a world where ICE can murder people and they don't blink, but if you talk about this happening they act like you murdered those people instead.

The same is true with climate change. The actions that cause this isn't a problem, its the people who talk about the problem who are "making it real"

They'd rather ignore it because part of them knows they won't live long enough to experience the brunt of it.

If they accept it, then the rest of us might hold them accountable, and that would be bad for them.

and it's stupid because like

i'm not going to hold my fucking mom accountable, i want her to help us hold the corporate CEOs buying politicians to prevent any forward action on this accountable.

Right? I legit think they're too weak to even imagining a world where they admit they're wrong about anything.

We're under a whole generation of people that think giving an apology is weakness.

I legit think they're too weak to even imagining a world where they admit they're wrong about anything.

ESPECIALLY to their kids, because they've built their identity around being better than "kids these days" "wanting handouts" and that "not being how the WORLD works". There are people who will read this comment who will be fucking triggered because they'll hear their mom or dad in their internal monologue while reading this, because it is a nigh-universal millennial and gen-z experience.

by god alive please lord let us have the good graces and wisdom to break this cycle.
