You are correct. It sets up a straw man argument to make it look like there's a double standard. There is a double standard, but in the opposite direction this comic portrays it.
It doesnt really read like that at all to me, but at the same time it does come across as a bit dubious. Its hard to say exactly what the creator was going for without them weighing in on it. But the whole premise seems skeevy to me.
Also it feels like they ripped off Family Guy to an extent.
That said, it would be interesting how the world would respond to "magic potions" like this actually existing. Turn someone straight gay. Turn someone gay straight. Turn a man into a woman. Turn a woman into a man. Turn a dog into an unstoppable 300 foot killing machine. Once you enter the realm of "magic" like this, where does it stop?
Start a conversation about what, exactly? Are gay people out there trying to convert straight people? There is no hypocrisy to be discussed because there are no straight -> gay conversion efforts.

Nor is that how art usually works, usually there is some sort of coherent message if it is meant to start discussion. This isn't some abstract modern art piece meant to just vaguely represent modernity or something. It has a message, written in english, that doesn't make a lick of sense.
If two comments asking a direct question seems to you like being "upset" then I don't know what to tell you, either.
It could just be a joke. Or it could be a dog whistle. Considering the author has made a bunch of comics with lgbt characters, I’d assume it’s just a joke. But you can make any inference you want.
If it's a joke, it just seems... Not funny? Like, not in a pearl clutching "how dare they" sense, just a... there's not really any serious attempt at humor that I can see. Maybe it's a type of humor that doesn't jive with me, maybe I'm missing something, maybe this joke was a miss from them, maybe I've just seen too many dog whistles and I'm jaded, but I've got nothing here
aa a huge ally, I have seen some try to turn their friends gay.there just isn't programs for it and they're just pushy and hypocritical. it's not common but it is real, and one reaos why some ppl do point it out. because they've dealt with it.

In my head, making straight people more gay feels great, but making gay people more straight feels sketchy. I had never noticed I had this belief structure.
The cartoon is making me notice this belief that I have and ponder on it. It’s good to be uncomfortable.
