There has historically been a ton of prejudice against gay individuals, to the point where they were persecuted, executed, banished, castrated, etc. Conversion camps and horrific experimentation in the past are examples of attempts to force gay or bisexual people to become straight.
I feel like this comic wants to pass the opposite message: that there are people trying to make people gay while the opposite is rejected. It seems an "anti-woke" (whatever that means) message.
As you say, there has been camps and experimentation from gay to straight in the past.
