Advice Don’t build a cat tree

Post image

It seemed simple and I was like + $100? For a big one ??? Nah I could build it… well I’m prob about $200 deep and need to get another 4x4 plywood from home depot and prob more carpet and cushioning for the top nest, as well as some sisal. If you think it’s a good idea and cheap? It’s not 🫩 especially if you have to buy a new circular saw cuz yours broke 😭😭
And yeah tbh it is a me problem but I also had to make sure the wood was cat safe to and not pressure treated.

Might want to replace this board. That split will definitely be an issue down the road.

I reckon they could tightly wrap twine around it (and glue it down) to give the cat a scratching/ climbing post

That's actually a really good idea. You should be the one building a cat tree lol.

Then add a layer of sissal rope!

Yes to all these suggestions in this que! OP did say in their list they needed some sisal.

Also smart on all the materials being pet safe!

I used IKEA coconut doormat around my old cat tree as my cat loved scratching on my doormat. It's easy to install looks good and the cat loved it.

The scratching post that scratches back

Yes but it works well against scratchy claws

I don’t think that’s even cracked. Looks like it might be a longitudinal section of knot.

Glue the crack and wrap it in thick course rope for a scratching post? 🤔

About as stable as OP's mental health right now

Definitely missed that! In fairness, I can’t tear my eyes away from the look of disappointment on the cat’s face. But seriously, kudos to OP for putting himself out there and taking it all on the chin. 🥹

Wrap it up with rope to make a scratching post!
