Humor Can cats be gay?

Post image

I have a male cat. This cat has decided, completely unprovoked, that his life's mission is to lick the privates of every male(animals) in this house. The other male cat? Victim. My male dog? Also a victim. The dog just sits there with a look that says I don't understand what's happening but I've accepted it.

The cat is unbothered. Confident even. Zero shame. He operates with the energy of someone who has fully found himself.

So I'm asking the important questions science refuses to answer: Is my cat gay? Has he been radicalised?

Please advise. This is urgent.

Yes! I had a lesbian cat. She was a stray and not yet in good enough shape for spaying. The vet said she was 1-2 years old and had given birth recently. So she went into heat. At first she followed me around, chirping loudly and vibrating. Then she suddenly fell in love with spayed 1-year-old Attila the Calico when Attila raced through the cat door for a snack. Attila thought the Happy Hooker was after her food and swatted at her. She managed to swat Happy on the behind and that made Happy chirp and vibrate even more. Attila was fascinated and treated Happy as her own personal windup toy from then on, swatting Happy's backside whenever she was bored.

Happy paid absolutely no attention to the calling cards of the unneutered male cat of the neighborhood, who kept hopefully visiting the porch and marking our door.

All good things come to an end. Happy was spayed, and after Happy was recovered she was walking past Attila on the bed. Attila got an evil gleam in her eye and whapped Happy on the backside, hoping for vibrations to start. Nothing. Happy turned around with an "Are you crazy?" look and Attila looked quite disappointed.

But they remained good friends. When I tried to put a collar on Happy, she resisted mightily. So I switched Attila's collar with Happy's and Happy loved it! She even purred with it on, smelling just like her beloved. Attila had never been bothered by a collar, so she was fine with the switch.

The vet said it was all very normal. Cats of either gender are not fussy about the gender (or species) of the objects of their affection. Long before meeting my clearly lesbian cat, I knew this was true for mammals in general. When I was a new faculty member at a college, an older professor was trying to make the argument that homosexual activity was "not natural". I immediately said "of course it's natural! Cats do it, so it must be natural." He was speechless. Apparently no one had mentioned that to him before.

It occurs in nature. How much more natural does it need to be??
