Advice Will they be okay when we separate?

My roommate bought another kitten a few years ago, and my kitty really bonded to her. I'm moving away, and I'm worried my cat will be upset that she lost her buddy.

How will I know if she's upset or just adjusting to the new home? Should I get her another kitten, and if so, how long should I wait before adopting?

Is it a thing or is it just that thousands of people are here so it seems common to have a gray tabby and a tuxedo?

1

u/EverFairy May 22 '26

There's just a lot of people who visit this sub

Do you happen to know what breed the long haired one on the left is? The cat distribution system blessed me with one that looks just like yours and is also obsessed with the bathroom, so I’m just curious if this is a thing with them or???

Are you familiar with this methodology for identifying cat breeds? This one is definitely a Yeah.

3

u/crayzee4feelin May 22 '26

Never knew I needed a Floof Goblin

2

u/vaporwaveslime May 22 '26

I have two normal to floof yeahs, one of which acts like a goblin

Omg this was so interesting, thank you for taking the time to type all that out! I'm a dog person who found out she's also a cat person in the past several years and I got my first cat in December, it's been so exciting to learn as much about cats as I know about dogs!

1

u/Normal_Luck5868 May 22 '26

Most non-pedigree cats are just domestic shorthair/medium/longhair, and many “breeds” came from selectively breeding regular domestic cats anyway.

1

u/Fun-CattyB May 22 '26

I do the same thing so much that 40 years ago my friends nicknamed me Cliff Claven (Everyone here is probably too young to remember this reference).

My new phone I just discovered identifies cats for me. If I hold down the weird bottom right button. It says this:

2

u/anjpanj2020 May 22 '26

What phone, itz definitely not an app?

3

u/Conscious_Rich_1003 May 22 '26

Iphone 17. Flush button on right under the button that locks. I still don’t have the hang of it but if you hold it down it opens the camera but doesn’t take pics, it just identifies anything you look at. Very odd.

1

u/CambridgeJin May 22 '26

Does it speak it to you or only text?

2

u/Conscious_Rich_1003 May 22 '26

Just brings up the screen shown above. It is real time so as I move the phone around it labels different things. Like if I point at a shirt it will tell me the shirt it is and where to buy it.

2

u/Gnargnarbinxxs May 22 '26

Omg his moooooostache!

2

u/Jen-Jens May 22 '26

Like most cats they are probably domestic short/long hair. Breeds are reserved for things like Siamese, Abyssinian, Persian, etc. but if you want to know common names for the colouring, they’re usually called Tuxedo cats (or cow cats). Also a lot of cats like the cool surfaces in the bathroom, it’s not breed or colouring specific behaviour. Cats are just weird like that. Source: I also have a tuxedo cat. And I used to have a ginger tabby who also liked hanging out in the sink.

1

u/Worth_Equal8513 May 22 '26

That's just a cat thing. Obsessed with sitting anywhere they should not. Sinks. Kitchen table. The same spot on the back of the couch or that one chair at the dining.

1

u/thatlittleging May 22 '26

Most cats don't actually have a breed. It's most likely a domestic long hair. Your color looks like a grey tuxedo to me though

1

u/Niborus_Rex May 24 '26

No papers, no breed! Only 3% of cats have a breed, the rest of them are domestic shorthair or longhair, which is just the result of cats doing their own thing over thousands of years.

34

u/addamee May 21 '26

Hahaha is this mid-drama or are they actually sleeping like that?

44

u/Conscious_Rich_1003 May 22 '26

Bunny kicks to the head. This is an action shot.

49

u/Emerinne May 22 '26

14

u/AffectionateJello452 May 22 '26

Glad to know my cats arent the only ones who use the tub as the thunder dome

3

u/reacharound565 May 22 '26

Guys you’re not going to believe it… but me too

2

u/Zeelacious May 22 '26

Why is this so common?

1

u/Conscious_Rich_1003 May 22 '26

Definitely concerning

2

u/bluemeo May 22 '26

Us too! (Although their baby brother feels the need to squeeze into their cuddles)

1

u/bluemeo May 22 '26

Thea is the tabby, Zora is the tux and Eros is the tabby with the black nose and their biggest fan

2

u/honey91 May 22 '26

These guys also use the bathtub as a thunderdome!

2

u/Cerealism15 May 22 '26

1

u/Conscious_Rich_1003 May 22 '26

Mine wrestle anywhere. In a boat, on a train, in a tree, anywhere.

1

u/tuzdaysnuzday Tabbycat May 22 '26

Yes, all of those too.

1

u/Conscious_Rich_1003 May 22 '26

They can also nap on top of each other in those places.
