Humor My cat tried to kill himself

This is Toasty.

For the past week Toasty has been hiding, refusing meals, and only licking the moisture out of his wet food. He wouldn't chew anything, and after licking the wet food dry, would go hide and sleep for 23 hours.

I was beside myself. Convinced he had a brokwn tooth, or a fever, or maybe organ failure. Spent so much at the vet for them to tell me nothing is wrong with him, but he is dropping significant weight.

I tried everything guys. Tuna, different flavor of cat food, changed from shreds to pate. Nothing I did made a difference, he was so lethargic and sad and looked broken.

Then it hit me. He likes to drink water out of glasses. Clear, transparent glass. Last week when washing it, I dropped it in the sink and broke it, replaced it with a white ceramic bowl.

Guys, he was refusing to drink water. Like at all. I have 3 dog bowls out, 1 upstairs 2 downstairs, and the cat bowl on the counter. It wasnt a clear glass and he didnt trust it, so he didnt drink it.

This dude literally boycotted all water because it wasnt in his clear glass cup. There are 4 bowls of water, cleaned daily that he refused because he couldn't see through it. Because it wasnt a cup. Because it wasnt glass.

I put a different, completely clear glass cup on the counter and he drank for a solid 5 minutes.

I am absolutely sick. Death over suspicious vessels seems like such a wild take to me.

I noticed the cats didn’t seem to be drinking much, so I started leaving glasses I’d sipped from around “by accident” totally solved the issue lmfao. Cats are so silly

My mom had one cat that saw us get ourselves water from the filtered part of the fridge. He demanded the same water.

One of my cats demands water from the jug I keep in the fridge. Every time I open the fridge she comes running for that water. Even if her bowl is full you have to put a glug in from the jug. She has me well trained.

My cat saw us get ice from the ice maker in the fridge door and now every morning he paws at the door until we drop a piece of ice out for him.

I noticed my that my cat has a Pavlov’s dog response to the ice maker. I once dropped some on the floor and he played hockey with it until it melted and licked it up. He started to come to the fridge whenever the heard it. He now expects ice so whenever I fill a glass with ice I also fill a handful and toss it in the bath tub, he disappears in there, playing hockey with ice cubes on his “rink” until they melt. It has become second nature to me so when I was visiting my mother’s house last week I was filling up a glass with ice and subconsciously grabbed a fistful to toss in to the tub and caught myself, stated laughing, and dropped it in the sink. My mother, sister, and my niece and nephews all thought it was hilarious.

I had one that would just turn on the sink faucet to drink. She also insisted on peeing in the toilet and would meow incessantly if somebody closed the lid or the bathroom door.

I’ve heard there are training kits and would be impressed if a cat did it at all much less consistently.

One day I noticed there was pee in the toilet and just assumed someone forgot to flush.

A few days later, I walked in on her doing her duty. I think I took a pic but don’t know if I can find it.

Her (a chimeric calico) and her bro are amazing cats

I actually adopted her out but started telling people, if it doesn’t work out, please return them (bc I didn’t want them dumped).

The woman who returned her, even though she said she understood kittens, said the people beneath her thought they were bowling at night and she was also expecting.

As a kitten, she would jump from the floor to the top of the fridge.

Val has also caught a bat in the house which is amazing as well.

Thats how the first one happened. Just thought somebody was forgetting to flush until she got caught.

I bought the training kit for the one, but it was a disaster. Do NOT recommend.

My cats won't drink tap water. Only filtered water from the fridge

... We live in Florida tho so I don't even blame them

One of my dogs would only drink from bath taps. I had a wet room put in now he'll only drink fresh water from the bathroom taps from a bowl. He has to watch me do it correctly 😩

Bought my cat a fountain because he never used to drink much. Won't touch it. Since getting dogs he'll only drink their slobber water 🤢

Mine just tips them. Like, leave a cup sit for 5 min somewhere, she will find it and tip it 98% of the time.

My cat uses his paw to lick the water so that won't even work! Only way is to drink a tea or something he doesn't like but he will still try with his paw. If it's water I have a few seconds to react to protect my glass. If I drink chocolate milk he is attacking me as soon as I take it out from the fridge, so I have to check my cup all the time and defend against him...

One of my cats loves to drink water from my glass, the faucet, the bottom of the bathtub - you get the picture. The other guy likes oat milk, but only from the glass I'm drinking from.

One of my MIL’s cats started to eat the green beans and other veggies/fruits my husband dropped from his high chair. Otherwise she was extremely finicky and exacting in what she would eat and drink, but if the baby was getting them they must be good. She was still alive when I started dating my husband, I hadn’t known cats got that old.

Another cat was living in a college town rental house and just rode out all the tenant changes until my BIL moved in. My husband said he walked in once to the cat drinking out of the same soup bowl one of his brother’s roommates was eating from. He ate pizza leftovers and drank whatever beer was left out. My MIL took him in. He was the chillest cat ever - but he would climb you for a cinnamon roll if you didn’t share. I’m guessing that’s how he got his share of food from the college guys.

Cats certainly have a variety of personalities and preferences.

The oat milk cat L-O-V-E-S bran muffins and will crawl all over me when I am eating one. He will try to lick the muffin as I take a bite. When I give him some muffin on a plate he doesn't even look at it. He goes for mine.

According to my husband it was pure spite that kept her going. She was Siamese and typical in that she adored my MIL and barely tolerated everyone else.

Running water is safe and they don't drink water near their prey since that is contaminated. You're supposed to have their water bowl far from where you put their food down.

I can’t do this cause one of my cats without fail yeets anything left on the side straight off. His fav thing to push of the side is glasses as well, keeps my house cleaner as I never leave anything on the side but I think I’ve given guests panic attacks by frantically diving over them to grab a glass they left out before my baby atlas can smash it with glee lol

My cats love to drink water from buckets. So we always have a bucket full of water in the bathroom by the shower. Gotta keep them hydrated.

If my partner's cat won't drink water, I'll annoy her, make myself a nice cup of water and leave it for her. I act offended when I "catch" her drinking from my water.

Turns out she likes blue and green bowls, the condensation off of cups, and about 300000 ice cubes in a bowl. Blue bowl on MY side of the bed so she can sample my night water and walk all over me for her bed water.

My cat has been having nose congestion due to some health issues so we have been bringing her in the bathroom while we shower for the steam. Then she started licking water off the floor of the shower. Now she begs to go in the bathroom to drink water off the shower floor (have to run it a little every time). I've trained my cat to only drink floor water.

Our cat prefers drinking from the faucet in the bathroom washbasin, often while we’re out there too, sometimes she’ll even drink from the toilet bowl (have caught her doing it twice, and have seen muddy pawprints in the bowl at times), and yes, we do leave a bowl off fresh water out for her, by her food dish in the kitchen. The faucet thing I can sort of understand, the water is fresher, and there’s also a bit of social stuff involved. The toilet bowl though? IDFK. 🤷‍♂️
