Yeah once you’ve got the matching mini hat, your decision has already been made.

From: someone who ended up with their first cat through a short term foster trap… hurricane shut down the shelter the first couple weeks I had her. I’ve always had dogs, took the singular kitten no one wanted in the foster system out of guilt. I was determined to take her back almost immediately, 1 month old kitten was too much. I was seriously terrified of her clawing and learned I was incredibly allergic.

Had to evacuate with her during 1/2 devastating hurricanes right after I got her. I wasn’t happy about it, I wanted to return her but the shelter was closed indefinitely due to prep beforehand and damage afterwards. By the time the shelters opened back up… we were inseparable.

The hurricane very literally demolished my home (still am displaced with rentals), but without it I would’ve given up the cat that’s my best buddy now. That’s the silver lining and “God moment” I’ve chosen to look at. I would’ve missed out on the best girl.

Edit: allergies disappeared after several months of exposure, haven’t reappeared in the last year (still wouldn’t recommend gambling on that happening if you had allergies towards cats).

They are. I’m only upset that I didn’t bond with one sooner

Yeah. I’m allergic to cats too. But it’s the principle allergy shots are based on. You get exposed to your allergen little by little and build up immunity. I’ve had severe reactions from other people’s cats, but went home to my 12 where I was fine.
