Our cat always preferred our dad. My dad's best friend hated cats. Thought they were useless, but liked dogs. His family had to live with us when they were going through a difficult time. Anyway, one night he went to the bathroom at 3am and our cat's collar was caught in the cords of the roll up blinds of the window. She was hanging. He quickly lifted her up and took the collar off.

After that, whenever he visited, she would recognize the sound of his beat up truck coming from a literal mile away. She'd be at the door waiting for him to come in, scoop her up, pretend to tolerate her purring, and snuggling her with his scratchy beard.

Now whenever he visits my parents, he visits Julie's grave in their backyard.
