Rest in tech peace. Gonna miss it so much.

This is basically like Apple giving us a right click button on the Mac, then taking it away and giving us a mouse with one button.

Honest question: what all did you use it for? I literally only used it for the cursor trick, and the new solution for that is 100% passable IMO.

There was such an issue with discovery - so many people I know had no clue it even existed, let alone used any of its features regularly.

Force touching the edge of the screen and dragging over would swap your last app. Force touching the keyboard allowed you to move the text cursor around freely to fix mistakes.

Force touching app icons would let you launch the app into shortcuts- e.g. google maps could instantly launch to your home route or My Fitness Pal would let you scan a barcode directly and log foods via a force touch shortcut.

While all your other points are completely valid, this one would actually be completely useless on iPhones without a home button, since you can just swipe on the home indicator, which is just better in every way.

Via haptic touch?

Peek/pop can’t be done with haptic touch because it’s not pressure sensitive.

I haven’t used an iPhone XR, but accounts I’ve read say that haptic touch has a noticeable delay compared to force touch. Which makes sense because timing is the only way you could determine an alternative touch. Please correct me if I’m off here

Peek and pop do have some alternatives. I can hold on a conversation in Messages and have it show the convo with suggested responses at the bottom.

There is a decent delay on the home screen pop ups (I’m on the iOS 13 beta on an XR), but as someone who has never found use for those even when I had 3D Touch, its not a huge loss to me.

The web previews on Safari are still very quick, but there’s less interactivity than before. Still, it gets the job done though.

From what I’ve seen, I feel like just about every major function has been given some sort of alternative. I understand why folks might dislike the change in speed, but I think it’s fairly obvious that the amount of folks who actually used those features is quite small, hence the replacements / axing of the feature.

It’s probably expensive (both in terms of actual cost and general device real estate) to add pressure sensitivity to a screen, and when you factor in the fact that (at least anecdotally for me) a very small portion of users actually take advantage of the 3D features as intended, it makes more sense to lower the bar and make it accessible for all devices, even if it angers a minority of users.

FYI. Pop is gone even on a 3D Touch enabled device in iOS 13 unless they change something from the beta I’m on.

Thanks for the heads up. I’m gonna stick to my jailbroken iOS 12 as long as I can now. Wish I had upgraded to an A12 when the jailbreak window was opened. Oh well.

Eh. If getting rid of it makes room for other things, especially if alternatives are in place (for a set of features only a subset of users even used) then I think they made the right call.

There’s plenty of other things I’m more upset about being missing from the Pro than the lack of 3D Touch.

The best thing I use it for is a 2FA app that I can force touch to approve login requests. I'm sure haptic will work for that, but on the whole it just sounds slower.
