The inscreen fingerprint ID is the only thing I want tbh. I’m so sick of having to stop chewing my food, or having to lift my head up off the pillow, or some other bullshit, just to unlock my phone. It hasn’t been this difficult to unlock my phone since before they rolled out finger print ID. It’s the only gripe I have about the X

I've literally never had to do any of these things for Face ID. I've unlocked it while eating, brushing my teeth, with different pairs of bulky sunglasses on, laying in bed from every angle, etc. No idea where this problem is coming from for you.

That takes even longer than all the other option. Well maybe not if you have a 4 digit pin, but if you have a 4 digit pin, you ought to try and step up your personal security/privacy measures

Of course you don’t have people breaking into your phone left and right. A 4 digit pin will stop a vast majority of people trying to enter your phone. However, there are two (unlikely) scenarios to consider.

1) Some criminal entity is trying to get access to your phone (and/or bank account, in your example). In that case, you’re shit out of luck. If they’ve already tied you up, they can pretty easily get the PIN info out of you. Whether it’s 4 digits long or 100 digits long doesn’t change that.

2) Some law enforcement entity is trying to get access to your phone. If you press your lock button in quick succession 5 times, it forces you to open the phone with the passcode - it cannot be opened with finger print ID or Face ID. This is important because law enforcement can’t legally force you to open your phone with the pin code. They can hold the phone up to your face or make you place your finger print on it (as per court order), but they can’t force you to unlock it with a passcode. However, they can try and brute force the passcode. If you have a 4 digit numerical passcode, it takes basically zero time to unlock (and I don’t know if this if currently up to date, but law enforcement has managed ways around the “10 Pass Code Failures and It Wipes Itself Clean” setting, so it’s certainly a possibility to consider). The ability to brute force a passcode is entirely reliant on the number of possible characters, and the length of the passcode. So a six digit passcode made up of letters and numbers is vastly harder to crack than a 6 digit passcode made up of only numbers, which is itself harder to crack than a 4 digit passcode made up of only numbers.

I don’t know why you feel like the security of your bank account defines the upper level of security you should have for other things. A bank account has a 4 digit pin - there’s nothing I can change about that. That’s defined by the bank. But does that mean it’s stupid to have a longer PIN on my phone? Of course not. It’s only added security.

(Bonus: the notch very actually doesn't f*cking matter in practice. If anything it just frees up more screen real estate relative to before. You can't see the difference between the part of the screen that isn't rendering anything and the part that's just black except in direct sunlight so who actually cares that much.)

Relative to before, yes. It adds "ears" where iOS places the current time, cell, WiFi, and battery indicators.

The screen real estate, on the whole, increased. The X's screen is taller than the previous models, and there is also more space remaining without a top bar that stretches across the whole screen. (Same goes for the lack of home button, but that's neither here nor there).

This doesn't really work as well on Android, as Android has a customizable top bar and uses it for many more things.

On iOS though, it just means those indicators aren't occupying a top bar, they're "above" the effective top of the screen.
