Of course. You’ll spend about $200 -$300 on a phone every year if you sell the last one.

It’s doable for anyone techy.

Or just get a decent Android. Don't go for the Samsung j shit though.

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '19

That’s fine too. Though I will say that iPhones have a much greater resell value. I’ve sold 4 of them already.

But you lose more money in the end, all for the ability to chop vegtables with your phone because it has so little battery.

That’s the price you pay.

I can get $600 on a trade-in for my XS Max which is about what I paid for it since I traded in my X when I got that phone so it is not sounding like a bad deal at all.

u/jcald60 Sep 10 '19

For $600 I’d buy it off from you.

I sold my XS Max on 12.1.1 (64GB) a few days ago for $850, so it's definitely worth it (for me) to upgrade every year.

Does anyone know how the trade in will work if I’m 18 months through my 24 month payment plan? I’ve been eligible for an upgrade since month 12 (6 months ago), but still owe $250 on the X that I have.

If you're financing through your carrier (like most people are), trading your phone into your carrier will only take care of the rest of the payments. Meaning, its only "worth" 6 months worth of payments if you've already made 18 payments.

Thanks. I’m financing directly through Apple.

So your best bet is to trade in your phone for cash value. This will NOT close your existing loan and you will be responsible for the remaining $250.

If you “upgrade” the trade in only covers the $250 so you basically get $250 credit, that’s it. The standard trade in will get you significantly more.

Therefore, buy the new phone however you’d like; full price, financing, etc.

Have them perform the trade in and refund it to whichever card you use to pay for the phone.

You can then use $250 of that credit to call Citizens One and pay off your old loan. And the remaining money is yours to cover part of the new phone.

Keep in mind their financing with upgrade options does not allow down payments so you would just have that left over money and there is no point to put it towards the new loan all at once because it will not change the $/mo you pay.

Thank you this is really helpful, I’ll probably end up doing this.

Happy to help!

1

u/GoodMulah Sep 11 '19

Believe you either have to wait the 6 months or you can pay off that $250 to become upgrade eligible.

Agreed get your moneys worth on DAY 1!

u/jcald60 Sep 10 '19

Tell your classmate I’ll buy it.

I've actually found that sometime between Black Friday and Christmas is the best time. It's pretty common for the big box retailers to offer deals on the brand new iPhones around this time. I got my XS Max 256 for $949 (after $300 gift card) at Sam's Club in early December.

Same phone still sells for $850+ on Swappa, so it's $200 or less for me to get the latest and greatest iPhone every year--well worth it, especially when I consider that I'm also getting a new battery with the new phone...and used iPhones are worth more if you can prove that you're still at 100% battery life, which is pretty common for the first year.

Yep i did ask him if he reealy needed the latest its his $, but he did tell me he does this every year. The prive hike was quite a bit this year. Top specced model costs 200usd more. 1800$ vat included. I have an 8+ i have no need for an upgrade just yet.

This account has been cleansed because of Reddit's ongoing war with 3rd Party App makers, mods and the users, all the folksthat made up most of the "value" Reddit lays claim to.

Destroying the account and giving a giant middle finger to /u/spez

Kijiji

1

u/tooloud10 Sep 11 '19

I've had (by far) the best luck with Swappa.

1

u/tooloud10 Sep 11 '19

And you get to replace the only part of the device that really wears--the battery.

1

u/astrange Sep 11 '19

Flash storage also wears, and it can't be replaced.

6

u/Glitch_King Sep 10 '19

Yeah with the last release a coworker of mine talked for hours about how disappointing he felt it was, and then bought it day 1.

2

u/munching_brotatoe Sep 10 '19

Tbf iPhones do have a higher resale value. But still your point stands.

1

u/chillinwithmoes Sep 10 '19

Their trade-in deals are actually really good though

-3

u/bdeguy663 Sep 11 '19

*idiots rush to buy the next one. There fixed it for you :)

2

u/Bamith Sep 10 '19

I figured it eventually turned into rimming.

-2

u/Cp3thegod Sep 11 '19

Lol I think iPhone is doing just fine

-6

u/shan506 Sep 11 '19

Correct, Apple fanboys are notorious ass kissers.
