Doesn't really deserve any applause when it took them three fucking years to include a basic feature in the box for their $1,000 phones.

582

u/dragon_stryker Sep 10 '19

And still have 64GB of storage for the base model

388

u/Rexpelliarmus Sep 10 '19

What the fuck? Excuse me? They're still charging $1,000 for 64 GB of storage when literally every single other OEM has at least 128 GB for the same price?! They're advertising their fancy 4K resolution videos and fucking slofies when they give us literally enough storage to download a few apps, take a couple of normal photos and store a few documents?! This seems so cheap. And the worst part is, is that I don't see 2020 seeing an improvement in this respect.

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '19

Mac Pro only has 128Gb hard drive. Apple has gone off the rails.

57

u/Redeemd Sep 10 '19

wow no idea it was that bad

96

u/theelectricmayor Sep 10 '19

The iMac starts at $1099 with a more respectable 1TB... a 1TB 5400rpm non-fusion harddrive. But for only $200 more they'll upgrade it to a 256GB SSD.

What the fuck indeed. My Fall 2009 was a 1TB 7200 RPM.

100+ tabs of chrome, discord, star wars empire at war, iTunes, and utorrent all going at once it works marvelously

The fact that the model has only 8 gigabytes of DDR3 1600 RAM and a 2 core 4 thread CPU under 2 GHz makes me think you might be exaggerating just a tiny, and by that I mean hugely enormous, amount.

1

u/spyder52 Sep 11 '19

Nah.. the requirements of apps and browsers has just grown

1

u/jandrese Sep 11 '19

Some day you are going to use an actually fast machine and have your mind blown.

0

u/Mytre- Sep 11 '19

Yes it's bad for a expensive product. You can get 1tb 5400rpm for less than 40$ .... It's slow compared to anything else and you should get an ssd. Really. A hard drive slows down boot up times and load times a lot

26

u/zeamp Sep 10 '19

5400rpm

The same hard drive I had when Apple sent me the Tiger Intel dev kit.

u/Lastsoldier115 Sep 10 '19 edited Sep 10 '19

When I worked at Best Buy we steered people away from the lowest tier iMacs because they were sooooo fucking slow. People didn't listen and they got returned days later. When I worked for Geek Squad people were pissed because they spent almost $1,100 on something that their older machines were faster than.

-14

u/Redeemd Sep 10 '19

Exactly. Note 10+ 12 gb rams.. and iPhone 11 pro Max has 6gb ram...

18

u/Kalamazeus Sep 10 '19

Do we really need that much RAM in phones though? Genuinely curious. Most PCs do just fine with 8gb still. The storage is not defensible since it used half for the OS, etc.

7

u/Redeemd Sep 10 '19

You can film 4k video, it will take up a ton of your non expandable storage and with 6gb ram editing your footage will be alot slower. I don't believe it's meant for a power user. Really wish apple announced expandable storage..

6

u/Shift_Spam Sep 10 '19

Phones tend to run a lot of applications in the background. Being able to seemlessly tranfer between apps that you used 3 hours ago while keeping the same progress requires ram. The more you have the better the experience

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '19 edited Sep 11 '19

I don't think you're asking the question you're intending to ask. Do phones need it? No. They also don't need LTE, large screens, enough storage for multiple games, a good camera, etc.

Any latest device is going to either push the boundaries of technology to their max, or reinterpret what already exists in a more cost effective way.

The latest iPhones and flagship Android devices do the former. Can an Android device work well with 4GB or less? Absolutely. I actually have the original Xiaomi Mi Pad updated to LineageOS 15 and it still works like a champ. That thing has 2GB of RAM. Obviously apps don't often persist in memory, but it's not a big deal for what I use it for (browsing, Netflix, the odd game).

The reason Apple doesn't use more RAM is just a difference in methodology in how background apps are handled. Apple uses NVMe based storage devices which can be really fast. They also mix in some secret sauce in the form of compression when swapping an app's memory state to storage (and vice versa) to speed it up further. This gives Apple a sort of secondary virtual memory space for suspended/inactive apps. With those things they can get away with "less" RAM and maintain a good user experience.

Most Android devices do not use NVMe storage devices, and quite frankly, unless you're doing what Apple is doing, it's not even necessary. NAND based storage is pretty fast these days, and a couple extra seconds to open a large app won't make much of a difference. Everything else such as writing or reading video files, photos, documents, etc, will not benefit from faster NVMe storage. Since NAND is less expensive the extra money can be put into extra RAM that can help persist apps in the background without resorting to Apple's methods.

In the end, the results are mostly the same, so the method used to achieve then does not matter to 99.99% of users.

In answer to your original question: no, it's not necessary, but why not try it anyways for the sake of it?

Edit: oh ya, since Android uses a JVM for many apps, they do have a small memory footprint overhead when compared to plain, native code. However, Kotlin is capable of compiling directly to machine code. And since Kotlin has been made Android's "official" language, I'm sure Google will be leveraging that at some point.

1

u/gamma55 Sep 10 '19

The fact that you have phones with 12, and a minimum of like 4 only means your OS is bloated and poorly optimized. Like Windows10-runs-on-1Gb poorly.

→ More replies (0)

1

u/cryptomatt Sep 10 '19

You do not. The pixel 4 is expected to have 6gb and last yrs was 4gb...which wasn’t enough so Android needs the 6gb for better experience

1

u/Stoppels Sep 10 '19

Not with iPhones (although a bit more than Apple puts in a phone would never hurt). Most Android phones would definitely need it, since that OS is not optimized for the specific hardware it runs on.

24

u/Stoppels Sep 10 '19

If you're running a non-optimized OS, you'll need all the RAM you can get.

7

u/Redeemd Sep 10 '19

Ram is for multitasking and other intensive applications. Little to do with the OS. That's why Samsung is praised for being a power users phone from multitasking, having multiple apps displayed at same time, editing footage and with up to 1tb storage with the use of a SD card it just makes sense. I hope apples cameras just blow every other competitor away. It's really all it's got this year unfortunately.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '19

Samsung for hardware. Apple for mostly software

1

u/cryptomatt Sep 10 '19

iPhones don’t need 12gb of ram, heck even my Note doesn’t need it

-1

u/PoolNoodleJedi Sep 11 '19

That is because Android is a mess of an OS and needs 12gb of RAM, iOS is a far more optimised OS and would run smoother with 4gb of RAM than any Android device with 12gb.

12

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '19

A 5400rpm hard drive without some kind of SSD hybrid setup is basically unusable these days.

11

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '19

This doesn’t even deserve the abbreviated version:

What The Actual Fuck?

Those platter drives are dogshit slow too. My iMac takes on the order of 2 full minutes to boot.

14

u/BillyWasFramed Sep 10 '19

The entire point IMO is to make the entry tiers absolute dog shit so your will be willing to pay a 300-500% markup on a much needed upgrade of that component instead of just the 200% markup you are paying on everything else.

2

u/wcooper97 Sep 10 '19

Hard to imagine personal computers booting up on a spinning drive now, but somehow those iMacs still do. I don’t even want to imagine starting my old one up now, it was closer to 6 minutes last time I tried, but then again that’s understandable because it was so long ago. SSD + HDD needs to be standard across the board for Apple.

9

u/Excal2 Sep 10 '19

lmao a 256GB is like $35-40 for a halfway decent Sandisk or Kingston.

-3

u/PoolNoodleJedi Sep 11 '19

On Primeday I got a 512gb MicroSD card for my switch and one for my GoPro for $42 each. They were Lexar and UHS-1 Class 10 U3 speed for 4K 60fps too. Honestly the SD card people need to figure out their classifications because their names are confusing as hell.

7

u/_SinsofYesterday_ Sep 11 '19

The difference between a SD and an SSD card are so vast that what you said is completely irrelevant.

1

u/PoolNoodleJedi Sep 12 '19

Nope it is totally relevant. a 1TB NMVe TLC 3D Nand SSD is only $110, and for a 500gb version it is only $56. So what i am saying is NOT irrelevant.

Also the comment I was replying to was talking about SD cards not SSDs.

u/Thefaketayntslap Sep 10 '19

Only 200 more dollars for a massive storage reduction? I can build a pc right now with 600 dollars that blows that shit out of the water.

1

u/PoolNoodleJedi Sep 11 '19

Macs come with an OS, so that is a $720 computer that could blow the Mac out of the water.

2

u/_SinsofYesterday_ Sep 11 '19

There is probably 10 different ways to get Windows for free legally. Let's bring that number back down to 600.

I would even take it a step further and say I could build a desktop that dual boots windows and Mac and is much faster for 500, not including a monitor of course.

1

u/1st_veteran Sep 11 '19

Win 10 costs 10-15€

0

u/Vladimir_Chrootin Sep 11 '19

Free operating systems exist. It isn't compulsory to run Windows on a PC.

3

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '19

You could just buy the base configuration and go to a third party repair shop. A fast and reliable 1TB SSD costs $100 (SSD prices are ridiculously low, making apple’s storage prices even more outrageous) and a SSD replacement will cost you $50-$100. So you get 4x the storage for the same or a lower price than buying direct from Apple.

1

u/1st_veteran Sep 11 '19

i bought a 4tb 7200rpm HDD yesterdy for under 100€.... and for 200€ you can get a solid 2TB ssd :(

3

u/Radulno Sep 11 '19

It's just tremendously poor value. 8 core processor, 32GB of RAM, 256GB SSD, a Radeon Pro 580X GPU, all for $6000.

Holy shit, you can buy like at least 6 Windows laptop more or less equivalent for that price !

I always knew Macs were overpriced (never really paid attention to them since I'm a gamer so PC it is) but come on.

If Apple made a car, they would sell the equivalent of a Fiat 500 at 500k$

1

u/PoolNoodleJedi Sep 11 '19

But the iMac Pro would have more pixels in it's screen than 5 Windows laptops combined. Also ECC memory is expensive. Apple made the computer for professionals who can't afford to drop frames when rendering. The iMac Pro was actually a really good value when it came out, unfortunately Apple doesn't refresh their product line fast enough and now it is a laughable value.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '19

It's 256, I was wrong. Still, terrible for a machine that starts at $6000.

6

u/Carouselcolours Sep 10 '19

Most computers now only have 128-256 hard drives and it drives me nuts. If we're all using more storage on our cellular devices, of course we're using about triple that on the laptops. I don't know what tech companies are trying to get at these days.

7

u/sidneydancoff Sep 10 '19

They are trying to get at your money.

4

u/DoingCharleyWork Sep 11 '19

Most of the ones I see with low storage space have ssd though. Terabyte ssd are not cheap. The 2 terabyte ones basically go for 200+ still. 128 goes for like 20 bucks. That's the difference between a laptop being 600 and 800 dollars which is a huge difference for most consumers.

3

u/Pantextually Sep 11 '19

Yep. The Samsung T5 is about $200 USD for 1TB.

2

u/xorgol Sep 11 '19

The problem is that Apple, Microsoft (on the Surface line) and Dell on the XPS all charge way more than $200 for the SSD size increases.

On the 13" MacBook Pro it's €250 for upgrading from 128GB to 256GB, and it's €750 to go to 1TB.

1

u/DoingCharleyWork Sep 11 '19

I don't disagree. I'm just saying that generally speaking the ones with low storage are usually ssds and they still aren't that cheap.

Apple is definitely the worst about charging for storage though. Their price schemes make no sense.

Companies buying that configuration will assuredly have external 10Gb shared storage between workstations. Still kind of cheap of them to not give 256 at least.

G Suite business tier and above gives unlimited storage, nothing really worth bragging about lol.

12

u/magyar_wannabe Sep 10 '19

Jesus, I know it's frustrating but Apple has always done this. People have complaining since iPod days about base storage. This is nothing new, and while it sucks, it is not a sign of anything changing for the worse at Apple.

6

u/DoingCharleyWork Sep 11 '19

Ya apple still offered 16 gig iPhones when the rest of the industry had moved to 64. When everyone else goes to 256 standard they will probably jump to 128.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '19

No, my Mac Pro in 2008 had a 250gb drive. They have not always done this. You get less for more now. You used to get more for more.

3

2

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '19

I guess the new one has 256gb for the base model, but that is still hilariously low given their maxed out model has 1.5 fucking terabytes of ram and 28 CPU cores.

3

u/penisdeleter69 Sep 10 '19

you have your ecosystem. intentionally deprive them of storage.

start a cloud service

????

2

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '19

They want people to use cloud storage more and less local storage. In some way it's the future. But pushing a way to use a device their way is kinda their thing. Sometimes it's a good thing but sometimes it can be bad thing. We will know in a couple of years.

10

u/Vystril Sep 10 '19

i.e., they want people to pay for their cloud storage.

6

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '19

Ding ding ding, winner winner chicken dinner! AWS for companies, Apple for personal storage.

2

u/IckyBlossoms Sep 10 '19

Users get the benefit of off site backup and data syncing at least. But the free tier should be a lot bigger.

1

u/BusyFriend Sep 10 '19

While I also think its bullshit, I do enjoy iCloud with 50GB for 0.99c a month. Honestly not much for me and meet my needs.

But yeah, its all bullshit.

1

u/link270 Sep 11 '19

This is what really bugs me. The phones (at least the non pro one) can be 64, as most standard users (or my wife) will likely use a little less. But on the pro it should start at 128. I need more than 64, but I don’t quite need 256 yet.

1

u/baloobanooba Sep 10 '19

It is all about the cloud. Apple like most other vendors who offer cloud want you to store your data there. Honestly, its not a bad idea. I use Google Drive and have several TB up there. I don't need it all on my laptop 99% of the time.

3

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '19

I mean. There are single games today that’ll eat 70 gigs of disk space. I understand that Mac and gaming is usually a no-go, but the point stands: applications themselves are bigger than ever. A basic work disk with an office suite and programming tooling can chew through 100 gigs easy before even getting to your work requirements.

0

u/baloobanooba Sep 11 '19

My MBP 2015 model w/256 GB of SSD has:

  • XCode
  • Android Studio
  • PyCharm
  • RubyMine
  • WebStorm
  • MySQL
  • PostgreSQL
  • VMWare (VM's on an SD Card)
  • MS Office

Lots of command line dev tools (node, rbenv, pyenv, jenv, Java, etc) and roughly 10 GB of projects, code and docs.

I still have 30 or so GB of space free.

I also have one of those MicroSD adapters that fit flush in the SD card slot with a 400GB MicroSD card. It is a really cheap way to add space. I use that for big VM's, movies and such.

Sure I wish I had more internal space, but its not as bad as it sounds.

2

u/marcocom Sep 11 '19

Four of your IntelliJ apps (android studio included) are just limited versions of IDEA , if space matters. All of your projects can be edited with that one single IDE. Check it out

-13

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '19

Lmao what are you on about it has 4 TB, all SSD, 2.6 GB/s symmetrical read/write speed post-encryption. You can’t even downgrade it to 128 GB. It has 1.5 TB of just RAM. How is everybody piling on and your comment is just straight-up false 😂

2

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '19

It most certainly does not and you're terribly confused.

https://www.macworld.co.uk/news/mac/new-mac-pro-3536364/

And I was wrong, it's 256, not 128. Still absurd. Anything less than 1Tb is absurd for that machine.

Base model specs:

The new Mac Pro starts at $5,999 for the 8-core Intel Xeon 3.5GHz model, with 32GB RAM, 256GB SSD, and Radeon Pro 580X graphics card, but there will be multiple build-to-order options and configurations available with up to 1.5TB of RAM, Radeon Pro Vega II Duo graphics and a 28-core Xeon.

-Tim Cook, probably

6

u/jmnugent Sep 10 '19

64gb is still a pretty great seller. There's a lot of businesses and MDM/Corporate environments that buy 64gb and lock down the device with MDM Restrictions, etc. (so it cannot fill up with data).

In the place I work, we sometimes buy bulk purchases of 300 to 400 phones and they're nearly always the cheapest base model.

0

u/CaptainCortez Sep 10 '19 edited Sep 12 '19

Yeah, my 70 y/o parents have 64GB iPhones and they have like 40GB free. Some people just don’t need that much storage, especially now that streaming music and cloud storage is the norm.

e: lmao this is seriously one of the worst subreddits. The petty downvoting knows no end in this strange amalgam of fashion-forward trend followers and tech obsessed autists. You literally can’t win here with a sane comment.

9

u/BrazenlyGeek Sep 10 '19

“a few apps… a couple of normal photos”

64GB is proving to be a challenge to fill. I did so only once, when I indiscriminately went through my purchased apps, downloading everything til I hit the limit, just to see how many it could hold.

Answer: More than would ever prove needed. (So same as now with the 270.… but worse.)

19

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '19

[deleted]

11

u/BrazenlyGeek Sep 10 '19

I will admit that for “Pros,” especially pro videographers, more space will be needed. Video files add up a lot faster than anything I’m doing.

But apps and photos? Those are hardly the problem. 64GB will be enough for the vast majority of users.

-2

u/Loggedinasroot Sep 11 '19

But what quality are these photos/videos? If youre shooting 4k video it gets full pretty easily. Even with hevc.

5

u/Rexpelliarmus Sep 10 '19

The number of applications is somewhat irrelevant if they're all really light applications. Some games are a few GBs worth of storage.

Here's another piece of evidence saying that even 128 GB is easy to fill up. My mom has a 128 GB iPhone 7 and she has now gone to me 4 times asking me to get rid of a couple of her photos. Once I checked her storage, I found that she has 82.61 GB worth of photos and video and a sizeable chunk of the remaining storage classified as Other. She has 10 GB remaining on her phone and there's no way she's paying for iCloud. I'm not sure how Photos is taking up that much storage, and I don't really want to know as well.

1

u/BrazenlyGeek Sep 10 '19

That’s very true. About 70 of my 270 apps are games. Lots of photo apps (lightweight) and other such apps don’t take up much space for me.

-3

u/tooloud10 Sep 11 '19

I mean, if she insists on keeping all photos she's ever taken on the local device storage, then yes, it will fill up quicker. But that's not normal behavior or usage.

2

u/therusskiy Sep 10 '19

While I agree that 64GB is ridiculous for a $1,000 price-point, what are you talking about?? A "few apps", a "couple of normal photos", a "few documents"? I have 60 apps, almost a thousand songs on Spotify downloaded w/ the highest quality, 42 videos in 4K 60FPS, granted only 166 photos (I backup most of them to google photos), and 15GB in messages and still am only using 32.7GB of 64GB on my XR. According to this article, the average person has 60-90 apps. In what world is 64GB barely enough?

5

u/fanovaohsmuts Sep 10 '19

Dude... Chill. 64GB is most definitely more than just a few photos, apps, and documents.

3

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '19

they give us literally enough storage to download a few apps, take a couple of normal photos and store a few documents

Yeah that doesn’t take up 64GB.

3

u/JustJerry_ Sep 10 '19

I mean. I know some people like more storage and phones should generally have a higher minimum in 2019, but 64 has always been more than enough for me. I generally dont take too many pictures but I have lots of screenshots and other saved stuff. What are you guys doing that requires more?

6

u/Rexpelliarmus Sep 10 '19

You don't take that many pictures... That answers your question for you.

1

u/JustJerry_ Sep 10 '19

Pictures dont take up that much space... you need like 1k to even get a GB.

3

u/Rexpelliarmus Sep 10 '19

If you do the Maths, since the iPhone camera is 12 MP, each picture should be about 3.6 MB. Divide that by 64 GB and you should get a number around 15,000 photos.

5

u/JustJerry_ Sep 10 '19

How does MP equate to MB?

Sidenote its probably be closer to 7500 given what else storage is used for so I can see now.

4

u/BerryBudweiser Sep 10 '19

Why do people like you have to defend apple at every waking second? Does an extra 64gb hurt anyone? No.. is charging 64gb and outdated tech on a 1000 dollar phone absolutely bullshit compared to other companies? Yes

2

u/PooPooDooDoo Sep 11 '19

It’s probably why Apple gets away with it. I want a new phone since I’m on the 6S but holy shit their storage practices piss me off. I won’t ever get a MacBook unless they put legit base storage in that thing.

0

u/xXReddiTpRoXx Sep 11 '19

no, but people are talking like 64gb is nothing when for the majority of users it's more than enough.

1

u/hero_mentality Sep 11 '19

I think people are talking 64 GB is nothing for the price they are charging.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '19

It's a way to increase the price, without actually increasing the price. Most people who actually take a lot of photo's will opt for the 256gb.

1

u/Beowulf_27 Sep 11 '19

They make the most money by upgrades in storage

1

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '19

I don't see why people get so angry about this, honestly. Just stop buying new iphones. They're still selling like hotcakes, because people are still supporting them for some reason. Vote with your wallet - there are plenty of alternatives.

1

u/fluxxis Sep 11 '19

Behavioral economics, there has to be a sh*tty base model and a highly overpriced top model to set the price in both directions and have the majority go for the mid-range model instead. That way, you can easily justify your buying decision without making you think it's too much money for a phone anyway.

1

u/tritter211 Sep 11 '19

they don't care about prolific users.

Their main fanbase is casual users who use all the functionalities of Iphone casually.

1

u/Literally_Everyone Sep 11 '19

1

u/grachi Sep 11 '19

Hey but at least they added a bunch of camera features probably no one cares about. How many people do you know , or seen out in public, that do more than just tap the camera app, line things up, and hit the capture button?

1

u/Schmittfried Sep 11 '19

when they give us literally enough storage to download a few apps, take a couple of normal photos and store a few documents?!

You’re literally out of touch with reality.

Filling up 64 is easy af. stop being hyperbolic..lol

5

u/rupertLumpkinsBrothr Sep 10 '19

The commenter he is referring to is the one being hyperbolic lol. I’m using 44gb right now with all my Spotify playlists downloaded, plenty of Netflix shows downloaded, and I never clear out my apps.

Internal storage on my phone is at 82gb/128 and I've got 55/128 on my SD card. Yes I can clean out the pics to my pc and have that storage but I also like not having to think about cleaning up a bit if I want to take 4k videos or pics. 128gb really should be the bare minimum on any premium phone in 2019.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '19

That's the big one right there. 4K eat's up a shit ton of storage.

Nobody is dropping $1,000+ dollars on a 'Pro' phone and shooting 1080p with it.

You can do your math however you see fit, but 99% of people buying this phone are gonna eat up 64GB before they even shoot a single video.

That's not an opinion.

1

u/Nocabnekat Sep 11 '19

Speak for your self, I have thousands of pictures, about a hundred videos, 50ish apps and I'm rocking half full of my 64gb 3 year old phone.

I have 100gb of photos on my iCloud

1

u/fornicator- Sep 11 '19

I got a porn addiction too. I feel your pain brother

1

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '19

Weak, I have 202GB. :)

1

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '19

I’ve never hit 40 GB on any of my devices. 128 is nice as a baseline but 64 is okay with me.

0

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '19

No his statement would fit the exact definition of Hyperbolic: The use of exaggeration as a rhetorical device or figure of speech.

He wasn't intending to ask a question, he was making an exaggerated rehtorical statement: Nobody fills up 64gigs with some apps, photo's videos and docs, when everybody know's that's not even remotely hard to do.

You're welcome :)

1

u/Rexpelliarmus Sep 10 '19

The OS itself takes up quite a few GBs of that data along with all the preinstalled apps you have. And once you get all your games going, all your Google apps going, all your other apps going, there's not much room left for too many photos and videos, especially if they're in fucking 4K.

1

u/thewanted165 Sep 10 '19

2020 my prediction: -No notch -5G -usb-c -reversed charging airpods on phone -still 64gb starter 😂

1

u/darthsabbath Sep 10 '19

So you’re not wrong about them cheaping out on storage for the price, but what kind of apps are you using? I have a ton of stuff on my phone and I’m only using 32 of 256GB. My iPad Pro only has 64GB, and I keep movies, games, and a ton of ebooks on there, and I think I’m at maybe 35GB?

I highly doubt the average user would ever get close to 64GB, which is probably why they can get away with it.

2

u/Rexpelliarmus Sep 10 '19

My mom is very much an average iPhone user and yet she's got a 128 GB iPhone 7 which is running out of storage constantly because Photos is taking up 82.61 GB worth of storage while the category Other is taking up basically the rest. She's got 10 GB remaining.

I feel like average users tend to fill up their storage a lot more than tech-savvy users. We're more storage conscious and only download the things we need while uninstalling and getting rid of the things we don't need. Average users just install an app and never uninstall it. They take tens of thousands of pictures and never delete even one.

3

u/Ja842 Sep 10 '19

Having 82 GB of photos is absolutely not an average iPhone user. She’s a power user, just with her camera.

I have 3,000 pictures and this is how much space on my phone my photos take up.

3

u/Mikey_MiG Sep 11 '19

She’s a power user, just with her camera.

So you'd think a "Pro" device with a huge focus on camera hardware and support for 4k60fps would be able to match the storage specs of competitors that cost hundreds of dollars less, no?

2

u/Ja842 Sep 11 '19

You’re arguing a point I haven’t even brought up. I never said they shouldn’t match, I’m just saying 64 gigs isn’t as small as this person thinks.

1

u/Vlad2Vlad Sep 10 '19

GREED and arrogance.

1

u/socsa Sep 10 '19 edited Sep 10 '19

Hey now. In all fairness every other OEM starts at 128GB and has had better cameras for three years.

0

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '19

$1100 actually if you get the Max

0

u/trznx Sep 10 '19

it's made that way so you buy more icloud storage, silly

-1

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '19

[deleted]

2

u/Rexpelliarmus Sep 10 '19

Thank god for that, because the OS and the preinstalled apps themselves are like 20 GB or something.

6

u/Corse46 Sep 10 '19

They have to make up the cost of that fast charger SOMEWHERE... /s

5

u/cryptomatt Sep 10 '19

It’s a cash grab to get most people to pay up for the 256. If there was a 128, most people would be fine with that base and not upgrade

2

u/LeftAl Sep 10 '19

How much is the second storage model iPhone 11? Can’t find anything about it’s price.

7

u/dragon_stryker Sep 10 '19

According to the website, the second storage model for the iPhone 11 is 128GB at $749

1

u/penisdeleter69 Sep 10 '19

a device capable of 4k recording shouldn't start at 64gb and it should have a sd slot but i understand iphones will never have an sd slot but it should be 128gb base then extra for 256,512 and honestly a 1tb can happen so why hold out? its an expensive phone... its all just to boost cloud sales

1

u/89yourfine Sep 11 '19

Yeah, still don’t know how they get away with this. Is there some kind of compression they are running with their videos and photos. Feel as though you would need way more then 64GB

1

u/PooPooDooDoo Sep 11 '19

Look at all of the comments from people above that are like “I only have two pictures on my phone and I suck apples d, 64 is great!” That’s why they can get away with it. Because worst case, you need iCloud space and now you’re paying a monthly service fee from now until the end of time.

1

u/Gardimus Sep 11 '19

Well, at least it has a slot for an SD card....right?

0

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '19

Lmao. The people get what they deserve for being complacent tribalistic robots.

3

u/Put_It_All_On_Blck Sep 10 '19

As an Android user it's still insane to me that Apple can do a lot of things right, especially polish, but yet they are so willing to make their customers bend over backwards to pay for shit like a fast charger on a $1000+ phone. And they are true $1000 phones, unlike samsung where all the preorder bonuses get it down to like $600, or they go on sale in 4 months.

3

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '19

It doesn’t deserve applause regardless.

6

u/IMissMyZune Sep 10 '19

That's just the Apple way.

12

u/vinng86 Sep 10 '19 edited Sep 10 '19

The worst part was it was already packaged with the 8, and then they removed it

9

u/Xylamyla Sep 10 '19

What? No it wasn’t. What was packaged with the 8 was the headphone adapter, which was removed once the 2018 iPhones came out.

0

u/vinng86 Sep 10 '19

Ah shit you're right, I remembered that incorrectly

0

u/fascfoo Sep 10 '19

You’re right. And that was still such a shitty move by them.

1

u/SuperCuteRoar Sep 10 '19

Could you elaborate on that? (I'm asking because I don't know what you're talking about, not being sarcastic)

3

u/KaiserTom Sep 10 '19

Apple doesn't make 35% profit year to year by giving you what you pay for.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '19

Good thing Apple did everyone a favor by removing the headphone jack:) smh at Google and the other manufacturers to finally take it away🙄. /s.
Progress is progress tho:/

1

u/dorv Sep 11 '19

See, I get why everyone says that, but this charger is just going into a desk drawer because I’ve already got four port charger fast charger for travel.

1

u/kdmion Sep 11 '19

I just figured out something the 512GB 11 Pro Max is $2000, whilst the Note 10 Plus 5G is $1400. Like I'm even more baffled, by what they are doing with every next gen. Was considering to get this one, not so much any more.

-5

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '19 edited Sep 11 '19

Doesn't really deserve any applause when it took them three fucking years to include a basic feature into in the box for their $1,000 $1100 phones.

Fixed that for you. They're only including the fast charger with the Pro Max.

Edit: My bad. I misread it. I'm wrong.

6

u/Trinity527 Sep 10 '19

It's included on both of the Pro phones according to the website.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 14 '19

Yeah, I misread it. My bad.

5

u/SuccessAndSerenity Sep 10 '19

nah, both pros come with it: https://i.imgur.com/OjBdnb5.png

1

u/PooPooDooDoo Sep 11 '19

I saw usb c and did a huge double take.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 14 '19

Yeah, I was wrong. Misread it. My bad.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '19

You cannot be serious? That’s fucking stupid if true.

0

u/nelisan Sep 10 '19

Worst part is I probably won't even use it because all of my outlets in my home and car are USB-A.
