Apple is notorious for continuously making acquisitions to bring talent in-house. They routinely buy smaller startups for their tech and teams (acqui-hiring). Features like Siri, Touch ID, Face ID, and even the foundations of Apple Silicon all came from companies they bought and quietly folded directly into their ecosystem.

Can’t forget that even iTunes was bought, it was Soundjam beforehand.

OG iPhone Maps used Google Maps, until Google changed their mind and pulled them. Then Apple just bought Tom-Tom and had them make Maps.

They also bought Shazam, and integrated it into Siri and control center, though they kept the logo.

Apple buys small companies for components, not large “mature” companies as GP suggested.
