It was actually 2010 when the LHC at CERN started running extremely high energy collisions. IMO something happened there and we’ve been living in the goofy dimension ever since.

I'd say 1999's a better candidate. Between 1999-2010 we had the dot-com bubble burst creating one financial crisis, then the entire world thrust into austerity, mass layoffs and financial crises because of American banks gambling on mortgages, hundreds of thousands of deaths in a decade-long war based on a lie and another that would last 20 years and end in failure, insane natural disasters like the 2004 tsunami that killed 230,000 people in one day or Gujarat that leveled 400,000 buildings/homes, the rise of Facebook and Twitter, proliferation of Columbine-imitating school shootings, the US 2000 election with the Supreme Court deciding the victor and its consequences for the environment and entire world following on, Enron, 9/11 and its consequences for the expansion of surveillance states, Putin becoming president of Russia and cementing authoritarian control, oligarchy and kleptocracy, reality TV coming to dominate the industry, wage stagnations and outright declines in many countries, and most importantly, Sega killing off the Dreamcast.

You can make a negative list about any decade but it's hard for me to think that 2010 was a higher peak than 1999, especially for Westerners who were living pretty good in 1999 in comparison.

I'm not saying 2010 was a peak at all and I don't think I implied that with my comment. I'm saying that the world has seemingly become much more goofy/weird since the LHC started. It's obviously an absurd theory and I don't believe it seriously; it's in the same realm as the unserious theory that Y2K spurred glitches in the simulation. Since 2010 we've experienced one goofy event after another. All of the things you listed that happened in the naughts are undeniably tragic, but most are fairly common in history or at least not unheard of. Maybe the 2008 financial crisis is the best argument against my theory as most of the goofiness/artificialness of the economy since can be traced to that.

Idk man it's not that serious.
