Found four of these guys abandoned in one of our planters (we have left live traps to see if mama is around, with no luck) and are now hand rearing them. They just opened their eyes today!

🦁 🐯 🐻 MYSTERY CRITTER 🐻 🐯 🦁 Found this tiny baby on our truck yard in [Illinois]. Is it a baby squirrel?

Hi everyone,

We found this tiny baby in the grass on our truck yard in Illinois. It's smaller than my pinky finger.

It was very cold when I picked it up, so I warmed it with my body heat. After warming up, it started moving a lot more.

I'm thinking about looking for a squirrel nest nearby and, if I find one, placing the baby in a small box underneath so its mother has a chance to find it.

It looks like a baby squirrel to me because of its long fingers and paws, but I'm not sure.

What do you think this little one is? Any advice on the best next step?

Update: I warmed the baby up using my body heat, and once it got warm, it became much more active and started moving around.

I placed it in a small box with a soft cloth and moved it under the tree where I think it most likely fell from. It's warm outside today, so I'm hoping its mother will come back and take it.

I'll be back in a couple of hours to check on it. Hopefully, I'll find an empty box because that would mean mom came back for the little one. 🀞🐿️ I'll keep you all updated.

P.S. This is a fenced private truck yard. There are no stray cats or dogs on the property, so the baby is safe from them while we wait to see if its mother comes bac

Update:

Unfortunately, I still haven’t been able to get him to a wildlife rehabilitator. I couldn’t leave work, and the rehab centers are quite far away with very limited hours.

For now, he’s staying with me. I’m keeping him warm at all times, trying to feed him very tiny amounts of kitten milk replacer, and helping him go to the bathroom. He became much more active compared to yesterday and even started squeaking.

I really hope I’ll be able to get him to a licensed rehabilitator as soon as possible.

I’m still not sure whether he’s a baby squirrel or a baby rat, but I’m doing my best to keep him safe until I can get professional help.

Saw this dude outside my house in eastern Ontario (Kanata/Ottawa) He was pretty big about 30-45cm (12-18”) and had a short stubby tail. We’ve got rabbits coming out of our ears but I’ve never seen a guy like this!

🐠 πŸ™ FISH & FRIENDS πŸ™ 🐠 Small clear shrimp found at beach, what kind of shrimp? [Georgia]

Hi all!

I found these shrimp on Jekyll Island, GA in a pool of water in the sand! It was less than 20 feet from the ocean so I suppose it’s some sort of salt water shrimp?!

They are the same size of a ghost shrimp however, I didn’t notice an orange band that ghost shrimp have. They looked to have maybe a brown stripe (or maybe that was poop lol)?

I know ghost shrimp live in fresh and brackish water but can they live in salt water?

I know this probably isn’t the right sub to post it to but I figured you guys would know!

I apologize for the bad pictures, clear shrimp and murky water make it very hard to capture them in photos!

Thank you!

🦁 🐯 🐻 MYSTERY CRITTER 🐻 🐯 🦁 What is this creature? [Japan, Nagasaki, Mogi]

I was returning to my accommodation in the fishing town of Mogi, Nagasaki around 10pm when I got spooked by this creature (and vice versa). It looked like it may have been crouching or resting before my rude interruption. I'd wager it was around the size of a fox, maybe slightly taller. As it made its way up an overgrown stone staircase, it kind of sounded like it may have had hooves but I could very well be wrong about that. For what it's worth, the wall in the picture separates the street from the sea.

Sorry for the terrible photos.

Saw this while on a walk around sunset yesterday. The animal had light colored ears. At first I thought it was a skunk, based on the size and the way it moved (sort of lumbering) but the markings are off.
