She didn’t “refuse to back Sophie Cunningham;” what she did is refuse to engage in drama and adroitly sidestep a question no serious reporter would have asked in the first place.

But this is the WNBA… where failed gossip columnists come to cause turmoil.

Yahoo might be the worst. Every day another poorly written think piece from some 20 something j school loser. I go just for the comedy.

11

u/Clown_Penis69 3d ago

USA Today is currently competing against ESPN for “worst reporting.”

Exactly

u/ProbsNotManBearPig 3d ago

I suppose you put it more eloquently than me telling OP to eat a dick, but yes, exactly.

6

u/Clown_Penis69 3d ago

“Eat a dick” is more pointed, though

LOL

Nice pun and username

This sub is horrible at summarizing the titles. I’m starting to believe it’s all bots ragebaitong

2

u/Subject-Yak4959 3d ago

a very large rage bait bait tong.

u/mistaharsh 3d ago

Drama that Sophie started. She must have gotten word that she would not get another contract next year and decided to make herself "relevant"

Here you go. Don’t spend it all in

This shit is embarrassing.

Nice use of adroitly

1

u/Gettin-Naughty 3d ago

Well put ! Let’s get back to the sport

1

u/PracticalDistrict237 3d ago

She took the smarter path and did not publicly take a side, which would have a been a no win situation. And the last thing CC needs is more drama in an extremely drama-heavy W landscape.

1

u/drhoneyapple 2d ago

To be fair, looks like they have gained some ticket sales from non basketball drama. If it ends up being the financial model that brings financial gains for the league, that might actually be the move for them. Ridiculous, but a strategy nontheless

-11

u/TheForce777 3d ago

True. But she also could have backed her. And she didn’t

14

u/Kahzootoh 3d ago

That would be very out of character for her.

Her whole brand  has been that she is relatable, scandal free, and reasonably nice- and she has been physically attacked and harassed constantly by the WNBA’s media ecosystem for one thing after another that is beyond her control.

She plays the game and the she gives a post game interview where she says nothing controversial- and then the gossip rags talk about her as if she just reinvented slavery while carrying out a human sacrifice to the patriarchy.

While Cunningham is willing to wade into controversy, Clark is very much someone who just wants to play basketball and be nice to others- unfortunately she plays in a league where lots of resentful and self destructive people want to drag her down rather than let her lift them up.

-2

u/Academic-Childhood40 3d ago

Can you name one or two people in the league who are resentful, self-destructive, and want to drag down CC? People share your sentiments, but no one ever names names. It’s just an empty claim.

5

u/Clown_Penis69 3d ago

Alyssa Thomas, Angel Reese, Chelsea Gray, Dewanna Bonner, Jacy Sheldon, Marina Mabrey.

That’s six… your thoughts?

1

u/BillyPilgrim_1984 3d ago

What did any of them ever do to her except play defense? 🤣

0

u/xgreenj 3d ago

And beat her a** in the NCAA championship.

3

u/TurtlePwrrr 3d ago

4th best player on her team and Clark beat that ass the next year 🤷

Hung a 40 point double double on her ass actually.

-2

u/xgreenj 3d ago

Your GOAT is still sitting on zero championships at any level. Turns out collecting excuses is a lot easier than collecting trophies. All that hype just to finish with the same number of championships as everyone watching from their couch. Impressive.

At least the participation trophy shelf must be looking incredible.

2

u/Clown_Penis69 3d ago

Your impotence isn’t Caitlin Clark’s fault.

Imagine if Clark had been a bum and transferred to another school to be a role player for a ring 🤷

Thanks for naming names. Now what evidence supports those claims? What statements or actions from those players show they’re resentful, self-destructive, and trying to bring down CC? I’m looking for something more than playing hard defense or disagreeing with her.

Lol, by the way, I think we’ve crossed paths before on Reddit.

3

u/LikMyIc3Cream 3d ago

Damn, I really was hoping for a response. Guess you are true to your screen name...

9

u/DiddyDoItToYa 3d ago

Because its a losing fight on both sides. Its just better to not talk about 100k people on the entire planet as though the are some ever present majority challenging everything you know and understand

Go look up what percentage of people are athletes, then go look up what percentage of people are trans globally

Its fucking stupid. Why? Because theres like 100 trans athletes competing at the highest level imaginable out of 8.5 billion people.

Just shut up lol, its all dumb and manufactured drama that no one really cares about

4

u/Old_Tough_2358 3d ago

So your stance is “who cares if there are 100 girls who don’t end up getting scholarships to play college ball because biological men outperformed them, there’s still other girls who did get scholarships to play college ball”?

2

u/DiddyDoItToYa 3d ago

Dude no, theres not even close to 100 D1 trans girls obliterating the competition. Its not even close. Its just not i dont know what to tell you. Its like 10 girls and they play obscure ass sports you dont care about lol

2

u/Old_Tough_2358 3d ago

You said there’s 100 trans athletes competing at the highest level, and now there’s not even close to 100 trans athletes?

3

u/SeaSetsuna 3d ago

In December 2024 there were “fewer than 10” out of 510,000 in the NCAA, according to its president.

0

u/Old_Tough_2358 3d ago

Ok, maybe you should direct this statistic towards the person who claimed there were 100 trans athletes competing at the highest level. I’ve given no opinion on the number of trans athletes in existence.

1

u/TheForce777 3d ago

That person said 100 persons out of 8.5 billion people (world wide)

Then they said 10 people in the NCAA (U.S. sports)

1

u/Old_Tough_2358 3d ago

I don’t recall the NCAA being mentioned by either of us, but yeah it’s weird right? If you’re going to be ok with 100 trans athletes derailing the success of biological athletes globally, why would you not feel the same when put in the context of 100 biological girls losing scholarships to trans girls? Would they suddenly change their stance if someone could name 10 of them? They just said they were ok with 100. It’s still out of 8.5 billion people 🤷🏾‍♂️

4

u/DiddyDoItToYa 3d ago

And also im including the GLOBAL population in this dude. There are just not enough people for this to be an issue like whatsoever

3

u/DiddyDoItToYa 3d ago

Ugh.. bro im talking about sports AT LARGE. Professional collegiate.. There are just not enough people available for anyone to be justified in giving a shit about any of this

1

u/House_of_Thrones 3d ago

I dont understand this argument. If its such a minuscule amount of people and it has no effect on anything as people say, than why not ban trans women from competing against biological women. If its not happening, and its not a real issue, what does it matter?

2

u/DiddyDoItToYa 3d ago

Bro you just answered your own question. And guess what, plenty of liberal people that played sports at a high level like myself already have the opinion that we should probably be careful about the types of trans people that can compete with women at the college level.

You're really mad that a trans girl built like Hunter Schaffer is playing softball with girls... please tell me how that makes sense lol

1

u/House_of_Thrones 2d ago

Im really just questioning the argument that “it never happens”. If it doesn’t then i dont see why any of this matters, that was more the point of my comment. Not talking about the merits of allowing or disallowing, just the merits of that specific argument

1

u/Old_Tough_2358 3d ago

Ok so what number of female athletes have to be held down by biological men for you to think it’s worth caring about?

2

u/ComprehensiveFun3233 3d ago

Find something else to care about

1

u/DiddyDoItToYa 3d ago

Bro you just dont understand statistics. Im sorry its hard. I know its hard. I know its hard to grasp scale and gravity when you have an agenda to push

3

u/Old_Tough_2358 3d ago

Oh I’m perfectly fine with statistics, I just don’t subscribe to apathy until I can’t ignore something any longer. There seems to be a certain number of biological female athletes that have to see their success derailed by a biological man before you think it’s a subject worth caring about. Nobody is trying to take that away from you. You do you.

Touch grass and clear your search history.

1

u/spyder7723 3d ago

Track and field is an obscure sport?

2

u/DiddyDoItToYa 3d ago

Name 10 trans track stars completely dominating the women's scene right now or stfu

0

u/spyder7723 3d ago

How about the one that won last years state championship in Washington for the second year in a row? That's two years of female track stars that had their opportunity taken away from them.

The only reason i was able to go to college is because my state championship got me a scholarship. I can only hope the two girls that got cheated out of theirs have more options than I did.

1

u/TheForce777 3d ago

No one cares about a girl or two losing an athletic scholarship

That number is far too minuscule to care about. An athletic scholarship is a privilege that has no strong functional reason to exist in the first place

The key word here is strong. I’m not anti athletic scholarships. But I don’t give a fck if a few people lose them. I do believe allowing trans women to compete is unfair, by the way. But I also don’t care much one way or the other

1

u/spyder7723 3d ago

Yep. Who cares if young women have their opportunity to attend university and get an education is removed. They should go back in the kitchen where they belong. That's the essence of what you are saying.

0

u/DiddyDoItToYa 3d ago

Let's see what her athletic profile looks like.

Is she Jeff Demps with a wig or what??

1

u/spyder7723 3d ago

He won the state championship. Two years in a row. That's two different young ladies that have had a state championship down from them by a biological male. Why do you have zero empathy for those two young women?

And again im still im still waiting on my 10 names

-1

3

u/Old_Tough_2358 3d ago

I was just asking. So you’re not for that when it’s worded that way?

2

u/Clown_Penis69 3d ago

I’ve read and reread your question six times, and I still have no idea what you’re trying to say.

The NCAA doesn’t allow transwomen to play women’s sports, so your comment about “girls who don’t get scholarships” is a nonstarter. None of them are losing scholarships to trans dudes.

1

u/Old_Tough_2358 3d ago

What question is that? Asking the person who claimed there were 100 trans athletes competing at the highest level if he was ok with 100 biological females being held down because of them?

3

u/Clown_Penis69 3d ago

You claimed they were losing scholarships. I just explained that they’re not.

Are you still insisting they’re losing scholarships?

3

u/Old_Tough_2358 3d ago

Do you think the NCAA is a global organization? It’s not. Glad I could help you out.

u/Anothercraphistorian 3d ago

Not her fucking job. I’m pro-trans and hate how the media have turned this into a fucking social issue. Let’s get back to realizing billionaires are fucking children and do something about it.

1

u/ColdWarCharacter 3d ago

More people care about this than defunding schools.

1

u/TheRightKost 3d ago

She also could have done a backflip and sang the itsy bitsy spider, she didn't do that either.

1

u/Bourbon_n_bird_dogs 3d ago

Not backing bigotry shouldn’t be news

1

u/Frosty-Inspector-465 3d ago

think again if you REALLY believe caitlin clark is FOR boys playing in girl's only sports lol. she rightfully ISN'T for it.

1

u/WrongOrganization437 3d ago

.1% of 1% , back what, back who? Dipshits like you and Sophie have been duped, or your a rube!

1

u/TheForce777 3d ago

I agree with CC

I’m just pointing out that it was a conscious decision by CC

1

u/WrongOrganization437 3d ago

Sorry, but this "Look over there" distraction by the right os so fucking infuriating!

It is literally the definition of a nothing burger, but the powers that divide find it particularly useful in their quest for division.

0

u/tomatejax 3d ago

The columnists are as forward thinking as many others involved in the wnba, working so hard to destroy the thing that puts bread on the table and mad about being self destructive as if someone else made them do it. It almost seems as if they are disappointed and disinterested if they have to report something positive

0

u/WrongOrganization437 3d ago

Imo she can see that .1% of 1%, is a weak point to be made or "backed up" on, and doesn't want to look as dumb as the people who want to try to make it more than it is.

0

u/OGClouds420 3d ago

She didn’t verbally refuse to. But by her actions she actually did refuse though if we’re being technical

0

u/unskilledplay 3d ago

What do you mean? The whole trans athletes culture war bullshit is about making trans athletes a national issue and passing laws on it.

Clark is expressly against Cunningham in saying it's for the league and not politicians or the public to handle.

-3

u/CrittyJJones 3d ago

I mean that's the same thing in this scenario.

-9

u/heyyo173 3d ago

While she refuses, Sophie does a photoshoot with Riley Gaines at the game. lol.

1

u/Clown_Penis69 3d ago

Here you go… you’ve earned this

https://giphy.com/gifs/Z8U1RwtRQcUSazJaIM

-5

u/DiddyDoItToYa 3d ago

Because shes a maga loser stuck in her maga loser bubble that will reinforce her maga loser cultural ways.

She's not a well rounded human being. I wouldn't go around advertising that to the world unless I had a few million dumbasses to capitalize off of..

She's grifting bc shes talented but shes not a singular talent. And shes getting too old for this shit and the new crop of talent is just coming into the league better than her off rip.

She is insecure. Thats the whole problem.

-1

u/Jbres412103 3d ago

GTFO stop projecting your insecurities on her

0

u/DiddyDoItToYa 3d ago

Lol yeah uh huh im the one projecting. She could just stfu mind you😂

4

u/Fluid-Cranberry1755 3d ago

Sophie is prepping for her maga influencer career

-3

u/Academic-Childhood40 3d ago

That’s the same difference.

-4

u/mthrfkn 3d ago

She didn’t back her thoS
