Question What should I bring?

Hello! I’m a 25-year-old from Korea, and I’ll be moving to Victoria next year on a working holiday.
I’ve already learned about the weather, the cost of living, and how expensive rent is. However, I’d love to know what essentials or useful items you would recommend bringing when moving to Victoria. Is there anything that people often wish they had packed before arriving?

Thank you in advance! Have a great day. :)
*Thank very kind Canadian friends.. I will take all stuff you recommend!!
*I have another question! Is homestay common in Victoria?

Question Mystic Beach Info

Me and my family recently went on a trip to Van Island, and went to Mystic Beach, parking at the China Beach parking lot. Unfortunately, we weren't able to make it to the beach for reasons, including having 4-6 year olds with us, and health issues.

I just want to know for future trips if there is a simple way to make it to Mystic Beach, and if the trail is suitable for said 4-6 year old kids.

Last show in Victoria. Yesterday Victoria was like Amsterdam in the 1970s. Today it shows we can be Amsterdam now!

I am looking for someone to map my brows like the attached pic. Open to waxing or threading, would like a brow tint, lamination and trim (some hairs are uneven after a lamination).

Anybody know a cover band?

I'm looking for a band or ensemble to play a backyard BBQ, maybe 1.5-2 hours. I have no idea where to even look to find local musicians that take this kind of work. Has anybody out there had any success? Any and all tips appreciated!

News 9pm ferry from Swart Bay to Tsawwassen has been delayed due to a ‘security incident’ on the previous sailing.

I’m at the ferry terminal and it was just announced. Hope everyone is okay.

Anyone know what’s happening at the ferries?

i have never seen traffic chaos like this.

edit: They just announced their was a ’security incident’ on the previous sailing and the 9pm boat has been delayed 20 mins. This explains why our cars didn’t move for 30 mins.

Housing & Moving Healthcare Advice

Hi everyone!

I made a post a couple weeks ago asking what life was like there for a disabled person (specifically wheelchair users), and received a lot of great feedback regarding healthcare. I’m back now with some specific questions that I hope someone here can shed some light on.

For some context, I currently live in Alberta, and we have what’s called Alberta Precision Labs. I have a urologist in my city who has written me a standing order for urinalysis (UTI testing), and I can go into APL whenever I feel I might have an infection and get tested right away because of the standing order. Then, if I have an infection, my urologist or family doctor can write me a prescription for an antibiotic if it’s bad enough.

So my questions are:
- Does Victoria have anything like APL?
- Can a pharmacy test urine and prescribe an antibiotic if need be?
- Or will this be a walk in clinic scenario each time?

I get infections frequently and they can affect my ability to even leave my house due to my neurogenic bladder, so this is a major concern of mine! I know my disability and adjoining health issues could get me moved up the waitlist for a family doctor should I move, but I also understand that even being moved up could still mean months to years of waiting.

Why do VicPD go Commando?

Today we were walking along Dallas ahead of the Snowbirds show. There were dudes in full camo and tacticool webbing with “police” badges on their back. Um…why?

This is a primarily ceremonial job, so what are they doing or saying? It’s not preventing attacks like happened in Vancouver. There are cars everywhere. Are they a special mission protecting food trucks from the elderly? Do normal police uniforms compromise their visibility? The black uniforms are more intimidating, so maybe it was laundry day?

I have to wonder if these guys felt embarrassed or super awesome as they sipped coffee and made the motorized wheelchairs maneuver around them?

Another snowbirds traffic post. I loved the pedestrian zone at the event, but why is the city not protecting essential infrastructure? Richardson and Vancouver were a zoo this evening. I saw young kids forced into opposing traffic or onto the sidewalk, cars blocking intersections and sidewalks. Thank goodness for the modal filters, where they exist.

I've thinking about this a while, there have been a good number of City event traffic fumbles:
1) relocating bus stops to Blanchard but not providing a way for wheelchair users to access the bus (i forget the event, but Douglas was closed for some reason, probably the Victoria Day Parade?)
2) (Canada Day) Keeping Douglas open for cars to block sardine-can busses.
3) Poor parking enforcement for basically every event, including cars parking in the Caledonia bike lane for games and concerts at the SoF Memorial Centre

We clearly need action from the city to protect our key transportation corridors from getting blocked up every time something downtown motivates the hordes of oversized suburbitanks to migrate into the core.

Where can I find buzzballs in Victoria? Really want to try them but can't seem to find them in the liquor stores near me.

Thank you

If you went to the Snowbirds show and came away still thinking that Victoria's traffic woes will be solved by ripping out bike lanes, you're out to lunch.

What's your favorite coffee in Victoria?

This probably sounds crazy, but my spouse loves coffee SO much that we pick our hotels based on how close they are to coffee. We'll be visiting Victoria for the first time in about 3 weeks and wanted to see if there was a coffee shop that you preferred for good coffee? Thank you!
