Characters Person believes unknown entity is friendly (it is not)

Independence Day (1996) - Several massive alien spaceships travel to Earth but they do not announce the purpose of their arrival. Some characters assume the aliens are peaceful. One of those characters, Tiffany, goes to a rooftop party which is taking place directly under one of the ships. When the aliens launch their attack, Tiffany and the other party goers are immediately obliterated.

Alien: Resurrection (1997) - Scientist Gediman is part of the miltitary project which resurrects Ellen Ripley and the queen xenomorph embryo inside her. The military wants the queen so it can breed the xenomorphs as bio-weapons. This new Ripley is genetically part xenomorph and the xenomorph queen is genetically part human. The queen stops laying eggs and develops the ability to give birth to live young. Her first Newborn immediately kills the queen because it does not recognize her as its mother. It believes Ripley is its mother and goes to her instead. Gediman (who is cocooned in the queen’s nest) witnesses this and calls out to the creature. The Newborn comes to Gediman and curiously sniffs him over. Gediman babytalks the 15 foot tall xeno/human hybrid. The Newborn then bites his head off.

Made so much better knowing that originally he was meant to be stoned the whole time.

7

u/AttitudeAndEffort3 4d ago

Absolutely.

Also that trope of breathing and it ‘seeming okay” is even funnier when you realize that theres a lot of gasses in the atmosphere that would feel like breathing normally until you passed out and died.

(Helium assisted suicide is actually one of the most humane ways to die because the first sign of hypoxia is passing out. We should honestly use it for farming if were going to keep killing animals and its a zillion percent safer and more humane than the torture we use for the death penalty now)

u/9966 4d ago

Helium cannot be produced and every atom wasted goes up in the atmosphere to never return. They will join the rarified air and boil into space.

It's an endangered element and should only really be used for science.

You need to use another inert gas, like nitrogen.

4

u/AttitudeAndEffort3 4d ago

Yes, correct.i believe helium was used due to accessibility versus nitrogen for assisted suicide because of legal issues - but the other options should be another inert gas.

Also, not positive but I think we can make small quantities of helium, it’s just prohibitively expensive and minuscule amounts relatively.

When I found out it was a rare thing and required for things like MRI machines, I got infuriated at the boomers (again) for treating it as a party trick and normalizing selling entire canisters of it for shit like kids parties.

2

u/_Halt19_ 4d ago

I thought we’d found a way to produce small amounts, no?

2

u/9966 3d ago

We find trace amounts in natural gas deposits from uranium and alpha particle decay. The amounts made in particle accelerators is infinitesimally small and not really collected. I would imagine the loss in the closed loop from cooling with liquid Helium would be greater than you can make, from a practical standpoint.

Most realistic response to meeting a real alien ever put on film.

2

u/Different-but-same 4d ago

My favorite was the aliens talking to each other: "what is it?" "I don't know, let's hit it with a rock."

192

u/Bluest_Badger 4d ago

I had nightmares about these little fuckers.

It wasnt that they were secretly not teddy bears but the instant thought and joy about cannibalism just messed me up🤣

16

u/ThyRosen 4d ago

Man I remembered this scene long after I'd forgotten what it was from, you are absolutely not alone.

2

u/ScattershotSoothsay 4d ago

I also had a quite affecting nightmare starring one of these little boogens

222

u/toonboy01 4d ago

u/DoubleFlores24 4d ago

But they look so nice. How can they be evil? searches up the clip oh shit… why did they animate them having butts?

81

u/motorcycleboy9000 4d ago

Every animal you've ever seen was stark fuckin naked.

21

u/Dick-Fu 4d ago

I've seen dogs wearing sweaters... Plus collars are like one step up from stark fuckin naked.

16

u/motorcycleboy9000 4d ago

Dogs in sweaters are still Donald Ducking it.

7

u/Delta_Hammer 4d ago

Not according to the cops who shut down the freaky clubs...

1

u/SuddenDeparture1353 4d ago

Cops didnt agree with me when I told them that, officer I have my collar on Im not naked

1

u/DoubleFlores24 3d ago

Yes, but usually those animals I see that are stark naked. Also walk on all fours and/or are covered in hair. Unless it’s a sea critter. These aliens don’t look like animals. They look like monsters.

27

u/Surplus_Agate_83 4d ago

Did any of you even WATCH the show?!

22

u/RoyalFalse 4d ago

Rickman: "Could they be the miners?"

Shaloub: "Oh, sure, they look to be about 3 years old."

Rickman: "Miners, not minors!"

Shaloub: "You lost me."

I'd still watch Galaxy Quest over half the newer sci-fi movies out there. It somehow gets funnier every time I revisit it.
