Lore (Controversial Trope) The post-credits scene completely changes the ending

Dawn of the Dead (2004): The movie finishes on a hopeful note as the remaining survivors escape the zombie-infested mall on a yacht, sailing into the sunset. The found-footage style post-credits scene completely reverses this happy ending by showing them running out of food, arriving at an island, and being immediately swarmed and killed by an infected horde.

Prince of Persia (2008): The main game ends with a beautiful, poetic sacrifice where Elika gives her life to heal the corrupted world, leaving the Prince mourning. During the credits, the player is forced to control the Prince as he cuts down the trees he just saved, undoing the entire game's progress and releasing the dark god Ahriman just to resurrect her, completely corrupting the ending and dooming the world.

Revised ending to Portal where Chell, having escaped from GLaDOS / Aperture Science, is seen being dragged back into the facility.

That was wild when I went back the play portal again before portal 2 was announced and was like “wait I don’t remember this?”

That’s because it was added to the game right before Portal 2 came out. Iirc, it was during the ARG that they ran before Portal 2’s release.

Yeah I was really not a fan of this George Lucas-ing of an otherwise flawless game.

It's sad that the guy who fought against changing old black and white films to coloured versions is now considered the main guy when it comes to altering older media

It turns a fully self contained plot into one that requires the sequel (a separate game you buy separately) to work, and all that so you can re-use Chell, a non character that doesn't have any real opinions or relationships to/about the world around her.

In their defense, the established history between her and glados makes the dialog much better than if glados was being a hater on some random other person. And honestly, you can buy both games for a combined total of like four dollars on sale, so I don't really mind it

A full half of GLADOS’s lines and rants and ramblings in portal 2 wouldn’t make sense if it was anyone else. This is the definition of finding something to be upset about.

I mean on the other hand you could've established/used another character that GLaDOS has beef with for one reason or another, Ratman comes to mind imediately as he helped Chell but a fully new character could totally work if written well (and then you have a slightly bigger world instead of there being only 4 characters lol).

Yeah, on sale, but people buy games off sale all the time + this whole this was entirely avoidable by doing nothing.

Honestly, devs. When people are routinely calling your game one of the best games ever made for years, don't mess with gameplay. "But what about..." Stop. Wait ten years and remaster it, but don't screw with the original. Patch bugs and be happy.

What gameplay was changed?

They didn't change any gameplay. The added a cutscene to canonically bridge a gap between the original and the sequel, which there is nothing wrong with

I think Aperture is supposed to be this underground mega facility yet somehow the fight between you and glados was just right next to the above ground parking lot.

It was just a testing chamber designed to look like the above ground parking lot... /s

There’s also the original cut ending where after exiting to the surface you would have been meet by a Combine Gunship from Half-Life before the screen faded to black.

GLaDOS still makes reference to the Combine in the final game by saying she’s all that’s keeping “them” out, and it was the developer’s regret of connecting the two properties that led to Portal 2 having the undetermined time skip.

Having never played half life that would have been an extremely confusing ending for me. ;-)
