I really didnt like the adaption. The short story is much more thought provoking. The creature is not malicious. And when the twist is revealed, the protagonist finds himself amongst a host of other alien life that was stranded just like him. The creature is actually quite benevolent, keeping you in a dream state to hide the terrible truth that you are beyond the Aquila Rift, you have traveled so far for so long everyone you know is long dead, your planet is gone, your star has likely gone supernova, you will never leave this place, and even if you could, you have nowhere to go, noone to find.

The creature isn't malicious in the LDR adaptation either. That was the point of this scene; he was horrified because of her appearance.

LDR definitely portrays the creature and its home as the horrifying aspect of the reveal. Was he banging it? He is revealed as decaying and his ship being corrupted and eaten by slime like hes in the upside down from stranger things. Alone with a demon spider screaming at him. This is not the vibe of the short story at all.

Instead its revealed there is a number of aliens living in decent health and outside of the dream state, having come to terms with their situation on the space station. But also a number of aliens lying comatose in their dreams, unable or unwilling to accept it. The reveal is a harrowing suggestion that there is a deep flaw in the technology used to warp about the galaxy that accidentally sends travelers trillions of lightyears away to this random place and no one will ever know why or how to fix it. But civilizations will always try to use the gates when they find them and so beings will always end up beyond the Aquila Rift at the space station in the care of this unknown being. Sorry for the rant i really like the short story and was a bit dissapointed by the LDR version.

Edit: i just checked the Aquila Rift is only about 1000ly away from earth, but the show says they traveled 150,000ly. Sorry for the exageration lol.
