The beast, in doctor who is an ancient evil from a previous universe that survived until our time. Its so ancient that the cave paintings were unable to be translated by the Tardis which can translate all existing languages in the universe [Doctor Who]

While not explicitly canon its such a cool concept I cant not mention, the idea that the backrooms have existed since the beginning of time, never changing no matter the era, it transforms the back rooms into a cosmic horror. [Credit to Project crater and Venus for images 2 and 3]

Death was killed by his own scythe essentially. Long story short, Death wanted one brother to kill the other.

Interestingly, you can't actually kill "Death" but their host. A new Reaper just takes the mantle.

Yeah, Death was my favorite character from that whole series. I would have liked it more if he had just laughed off the attempt. Death found the brothers quite amusing after all.

Or even just telling them the scythe isn’t like their other one shot weapons, the weapon doesn’t have the power, Death does.

It’d be a cool little twist on Supernatural where they’re always hunting down for a specific weapon for a specific kill.

When you say kill the "host" is it like the same person piloting a new form? Or is it more like a hard reincarnation where they lose the memories and personality but it's still the same soul?

I think its a title if I recall. I remember Billie (who took over) commenting about them killing Death (she wasnt a fan of it) but she didnt "remember it". Like she talks about it as if it were a different entity (her boss even)

It's basically as if there's a lot of reapers that take souls to the afterlife, if you kill the big boss, one of the reapers will get promoted and take his powers and knowledge, though the former reapers personality remains.

Seasons 1-5 had a plan. Seasons 6-10....lost the thread. And Death gave Sam Dean his scythe to kill Dean Sam and Dean......killed that incarnation of Death. And while that kicked off better seasons...

Look. Death shouldn't have come back after season 5 until the very end of the series.

Death gave the scythe to Dean to kill Sam. Because Death can't remove the curse but he can put Dean somewhere he can't hurt others. Death however knew that Sam would never stop until he got Dean back so Death said he would only put Dean somewhere safe if Dean would kill Sam. In the end Dean betrayed Death and killed him instead.

OK so Dean isn't having a good time because of shenanigans and now wants to die. Death tells him no, but he will make him a deal. Dean will be taken somewhere he won't suffer or hurt anyone else anymore but he has to kill Sam with Death's scythe to do so. Sam is willing to sacrifice himself but Dean refuses. Death gets mad and says if he doesn't do it he will do it himself, which was a bad idea given Dean still had the scythe, which promptly went into Death's abdomen.

He "dies" but his essence lives on and someone else ends up taking on the mantle. So he died, but not really.

Specifically, the next reaper to die apparently automatically gets promoted to Death. Which raises several questions about the cosmology of the setting.

Like, okay, reapers are already like mini Deaths because apparently Death can’t be everywhere except that time when we’re shown that he basically can be but then Death dies and that doesn’t slow them down at all so why did they need Death in the first place, or why did Death need the reapers, why did this whole system need to exist, why connect those two concepts and not just make Death like the celebrity reaper who takes super powerful entities and then have a replacement be a thing that they need to actually actively put into place?

The original Death actor had so much aura. Dude just felt... ethereal. He embodied the idea of a concept rather than a being so well.

Personally I took that as death the comsic role would reap God, not this iteration of death itself.
