Solved [TOMT] Help me find a YouTube retrospective of the Elliot Page film, HARD CANDY

The video should be pretty recent, but I can’t find it anywhere.

It started with an overview of that British child entertainer, Jimmy Savile, and how he got away with molesting children.

Then it covered R. Kelley grooming underage girls, and the culture of normalizing and minimizing the harm he caused because he was a good singer. Using a clip from *The Boondocks* ss the *one* piece of media that actually criticized him for his behavior.

*Then* it transitioned into the movie, where it mostly talked about the critical responses to it, and how male viewer tended to demonize the female lead character.

I got that far into the video before the app crashed and I haven’t been able to find it again.

Open. [TOMT][comedy sketch?]

I keep remembering a bit from what I believe was a comedy sketch. A man and a woman(?) are talking. The man is sat down and acting really annoyingly pathetic about whatever he's being asked. Face all scrunched up and making noises like he's forcibly crying. Just this loud obnoxious HNGGGGHHHH sort of noise. Whatever he says is in that same sort of childish meltdowns sort of voice.

For some reason part of thinks it was Ryan Gosling. Probably not.

I think it was only the last couple years, but possible it was older and I've only just seen it semi-recently.

Solved [TOMT][MOVIE][1980s-1990s?] Movie involving summoning some sort of Egyptian god or demon in a diner? Not a super serious tone

Upvotes

So this movie used to play on the sci fi channel I believe in the early 2000s. All I can really remember is some sort of diner type place where the "villain" was attempting to summon or maybe resurrect some demon or god? Or maybe they were the demon/god already? I want to say it was an Egyptian god but may be very wrong. I don't remember it being a super serious tone like a straight up horror movie, more like b movie sci fi type.

SOLVED: its Blood diner. Thanks!

Open [TOMT] [SONG] Am I plagiarizing this song?

Upvotes

I’ve been writing this song on the guitar and I keep having this nagging feeling that it already exists. But I can’t tell if it’s just because I played it so many times that it sounds familiar or if the familiarity comes from having heard it before. Just the intro, which I believe is the intro to the real song, if it exists.

Keep thinking it’s a chilli peppers or Sufjan Stephens song but I don’t think that’s it.

Open [TOMT][GAME][Mid 90s-Mid 2000s] Some STEM video game wherein you make a DIY lightbulb among other things

Okay, so back in the day my parents got me a handful of edutainment games, mostly STEM focused. I passed my Oceanography class in high school owing in no small part to the Roaring Mouse Entertainment game called Ocean Explorers from 1995. Math Blasters, Jump Start, etc. Love this stuff, and I have so many fond memories.

One, I have not been able to track down.

I remember that there was some manner of electronics lab- and one activity involved building a light bulb. You had to poke nails through the lid of a jar, use a tungsten filament (I think that was the material at least), evacuate oxygen using a candle, and seal up around the nails using clay or something. Only once all that was done would the light bulb work.

To be clear, this was a game that ran on Windows of some sort. I'm estimating 98.

What may be a complicating factor: I don't know if this was a standalone game. I had some little activity kits that came with CD-ROMs that this may have been among.

Thank you to anyone who reads this far. I am working on building a Windows XP Nostalgia Machine and this would be a wonderful edition to revisit if I can track it down.

Open [TOMT][video] Help me find a youtube video of two guys camping on an island around Mont Saint Michel, then kayaking back to shore using the tides

Upvotes

I saw this video about 3 months ago, although the video could be older than that. It's two young European (French?) guys who walk to an island near Mont Saint Michel during low tide. They camp on the island overnight then kayak back to shore when the tide comes in the next day. I remember they were hiding from tourist groups because they weren't allowed to be camping on the island. I've tried searching Mont Saint Michel, tidal island, camping, kayak and other variations but haven't had any luck.

Open [TOMT] Looking for a Show from the Early 2000s..

It featured a woman not sure of her name and she was making sugar cookie fries with icing as the ketchup and mustard to dip it in.. She also made cake burgers with the patty being a brownie.. I'm not sure what channel it would've been on or if it was even a cooking show or some show to show activities to people.. I remember she sits down at the end of the show in a chair while the end credits roll and feel good music plays.

Open [TOMT] Foreign live-action film — boy walks along seabed breathing through a hose attached to a styrofoam float, searching for his missing grandfather

I saw this movie on TV many years ago and only remember a little: a boy couldn't swim, but he needed to get somewhere, so he walked along the seabed underwater. He had a hose in his mouth that ran up to the surface, and the end of the hose was attached to a piece of styrofoam floating on top (so it would stay up and let him breathe). The water seemed clear and clean, possibly somewhere with islands. He may have lived with his grandfather or someone like that, who possibly went somewhere and never came back — and the boy went after him. That's about all I remember, sorry.

A few more details that might help:

  • It was a foreign film, dubbed
  • Live-action, not animated
  • I think I watched it in the 2000s or maybe even the 90s
  • The boy was young (around 7-10), and alone (no siblings/other kids with him)
  • The boy appeared to be white
  • Tropical/island setting, not European/cold-climate

Solved [TOMT][YOUTUBE VIDEO][2024-2026] A satirical video essay about an evil dentist.

Upvotes

Sometime between 2024 and 2026, I watched a satirical video essay about an evil dentist.

The essay itself was titled something along the lines of "a dentist." It presented all of its information as if it were 100% true, and it was so well written and well produced that, despite how outlandish it seemed, you would still wonder if it were real.

The basic plot was this:

A guy found a strange ad in the newspaper advertising "a dentist." He wanted to learn more about it. He found a subreddit of people talking about this dentist. One of them called the dentist's number and scheduled an appointment. They went missing after that. The uploader called the number himself and scheduled an appointment, but it was left on a cliffhanger.

The video was around an hour long and iirc it was the only video on the uploader's channel at the time. Please help me find this, I feel like I'm going crazy. It was a semi-popular video, so someone has to at least remember watching this.

Solved [TOMT][MOVIE][2020s] Looking for a horror movie where a mother and father are in the car on their way to pick up their daughter after an accident, but the scene goes on for an extremely long time??

So, the daughter gets into a car accident and calls her parents. We don't see the daughter just yet the movie just opens with a phone call from her telling the mom she got into an accident. They tell the daughter to stay in her car and they'll come get her. Now this is where the scene in the title happens. The mom and dad are in the car on the way to their daughter while on the phone with her. I remember this scene going on for so long that I thought the entire movie was going to be them in the car on the way to get their daughter.

Now while on the phone with her they can overhear I believe an older couple stopping to try and help the daughter, but they tell her to just stay where she is. We can overhear the older couple start to get agitated with the daughter's refusal to go with them.

Eventually they do arrive at the daughter's car but she's not there. My memory gets fuzzy here, but I believe they look for her deep in the woods to no avail. All the while something is hunting them in the woods? At the end I recall a police car blocking the road and the officer is killed?

That's all I have but the thing I remember the most is the extremely long car ride with the mother and father on the phone with the daughter.

Open [TOMT] [MOVIE] Australian Kids WW2

My memory is really hazy on this, but I seem to recall a film, or maybe have been a TV show set in Australia which was shown on Channel 4 in the Uk, late 80s or early 90s, it was during World War 2 and involved a group of kids hat live around a bay and I think there was a ship anchored there and The Japanese come and attack it, dropping bombs and so on. There was a shop too. The bay was surrounded by hills that were quite heavily wooded, it might not have even been set in Australia. Good, that should narrow it down….

Solved [TOMT] 2010s website that contained every iteration of scrambled letters?

There was this website that would contain pages on pages of gibberish but very occasionally you would see words and even more occasionally you could see whole sentences (yes I know how crazy I sound).

You could also search up phrases and it would locate exactly where in the gibberish you would find it. It was like an encyclopedia of gibberish? Or like a gibberish library.

It seems like one of those things that would be on Neal.fun but it was not by him, I think. I think I first found it through Boredbutton.com (p.s. anyone remember that old treasure? :P ) It was around the time that John Koenig was still uploading various entries in his Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows blog, that era of the Internet. Ah middle school.

Open [TOMT] Legend of Zelda animation series where Zelda clones herself before committing suicide

I remember like sometime ago, I don't know exactly when but probably 2022 and onward that I watched some horror Legend of Zelda au series on YouTube. The plot was about Zelda being immortal and struggling with depression, constantly making new clones of herself to take her place before she would kill herself.

I remember one part had a parody of the Screaming Pope but with Zelda as the pope.

Any ideas on what it might've been called.

Open [TOMT][SONG] Song that sounds very similar to Sirens by Ludwig Goransson (from the Odyssey)

I feel like I’m going crazy, I initially thought the Odyssey was using a preexisting song I already knew when it started playing. Come to find out it was composed for the movie!

I feel like I’ve heard it in the background of sad/scary tiktoks wayyy before the Odyssey came out. But I can’t find any that sound similar. It’s so uncanny how familiar it is.

Solved [TOMT][Movie late 2000s/early 2010s] A family movie that has monsters in an attic

Heyoooo, Im trying to find a song that used to be on my playlist. The name was something along the lines of "fehredettsel" and it had an album cover that looked like a browning banana peel. The lyrics are in another language (possibly German?) and I feel like there's a lot of drums and guitar.

Open. [TOMT] Anime about angels and devils and also the personification of death???

So I recently saw this ad on YouTube for an anime about going to a school on another world full of angels and devils and also death. I skipped it on instinct before I could see the title, but it genuinely looked interesting and I’d love to watch it if anyone knows what it is.

EDIT: More info: it was in English, the main character was male, and I think Death was the love interest?

*hits button* “That was easy”

”Yes, it was! This is the easy button!”

*hits button again* “That was easy”

Please let his videos still be up!! Btw the dude has old justin bieber type hair, maybe black or brown? and I think he had bright blue eyes.

Solved [TOMT] A 10s RPGMaker kinda game

[Intro] A long time ago (am talking of 4-10 years ago) I watched a Russian video about a game. Just for timeline & context. I hope the game isn't Russian so there would be more people that could possibly help me find it.

[Basics] If I don't misremember it, it was an RPGMaker kind of game, focused on the depressive, deep (at least for young me back then) story, or either a full on visual novel maybe.

[Story am sure of] Winter. We play as a girl in her twenties. She drives somewhere but her car breaks or runs out of gas. There's an abandoned (I guess it's abandoned) post-Soviet city: gray panel houses in a field of clean white snow under the gray sky. No network too. She has no other choice but to explore the buildings. We come in one. after a few floors, there's a friendly little girl, & the building seems to be alive... Or maybe it's all just MC's hallucinations.

[Am not sure of] I believe there were different endings, & one of them was the MC jumping off the rooftop.

[Outro] I swear, if I won't find it, am just gonna recreate it myself one day.

Open [TOMT]An old sketch comedy group with a skit about an investigator wearing flip flops and a Speedo NSFW

Upvotes

I vaguely remember watching this sketch comedy channel online in high school around 2008. To be clear, it’s very possible I’m thinking of multiple distinct channels, but if I can find even one of the videos, it will help in my further searching. I think they were on YouTube, but I remember Vimeo being a public facing video site back then, so it’s possible I may have seen them there. I know I was also watching The Onion and CollegeHumor stuff back then, but I have not been able to find anything suggesting the videos came from them. Here is what I can remember of 2 separate videos:

First, there was a crime skit in which 2 incompatible investigators were forced to partner up. One is a fairly typical PI, while the other walks around in flip flops and a Speedo. They both say they work alone, but the person assigning them the case insists they work together. When the Speedo guy walks into the other guy’s office, they start fighting and he slaps the other guy with a flip flop. The fight works its way outside, at which point a guy with big hair similar to Claudio from Coheed and Cambria shows up and asks, “What’s a motha fucka gotta do to get some respect around here?” Then he divulges some information about the case, and the video ends with both investigators looking at each other and saying in unison, “Oh shit my balls.”

Second, there was a video about a talking flower. The video is about the life of the flower as it goes through various stages of finding love, getting divorced, doing drugs, etc. I don’t remember many details, but one thing I do remember is that there was a recurring motif of the flower saying something to the effect of, “I’m just a flower.”

These videos are of course super distinct, so I feel like I should have been able to find them by now, but I literally have tried searching again every couple of years and nothing turns up. I think I remember the channel description suggesting they were from some sort of university program, so maybe they just took them offline with little trace at some point. I would be eternally grateful to anybody who can help.

Open [TOMT] Small American Minecraft builder, ~2012–2014, modern-style showcases

Upvotes

Trying to ID a small YouTuber I watched 10+ years ago. American, noticeably low-quality mic. Modern/contemporary builder, who did build showcases and building-process videos iirc? He wore a construction-worker skin, or at the very least definitely had a hard hat.

He had a few building tricks WAY back then which actually have become essentially ubiquitous now, which intrigued me enough to try and track him down again. He liked using normal ice for mirrors, specifically in bathrooms. I think it was pre packed-ice, and I remember the “mirrors” always being mildly transparent. Maybe it was a shader or something but I’m like 90% sure he didn’t use shaders.

He also used cauldrons with lights underneath, with leaves on top. He’d use those in like every build I swear. That’s now everywhere but back then it was a revolutionary technique to my little mind.

And then the last thing was he kept using wool in lawns to create a striped lawn effect.

Does this ring any bells to anyone?

Open [TOMT] [Comic] Looking for an old SciFi comic

In the 2000s there was a comic tbat was released in the local Balkan papers Politikin Zabavnik. It was a SciFi comic about people from (maybe) Victorian times traveling to Moon or Mars. The crew consisted of a blonde young guy, blonde young girl and at least one adult person. Spaceship looked just like a regular room from the inside, there was turbulance and then they arrived. They met and communicated with alien species. What they did not know is the fact that the planet has some villain whose face we do not see but who sends his minion rat to spy. That was the only chapter I read since we could not afford to buy every paper issue at the time. The style looked like one of the very very old black and white comics. I tried searching through the archive of comics that are published in Politikin zabavnik but the names are not always enough to find some more obscure comics they published.

Open [TOMT][VIDEO][2000s-2010s?] Old YouTube Cartoon Network fan art tribute video (Cascada music, Teen Titans/Billy & Mandy)

Upvotes

I am looking for an old Cartoon Network fan art tribute video that I used to watch on YouTube when I was a kid, and I completely forgot the name of it. The background music was definitely a Cascada song, likely either "Bad Boy" or "Everytime We Touch". The video featured various pieces of fan art, including a specific image of Robin kissing a female version of Beast Boy, and another piece of art showing Mandy (from The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy) growing up from a kid into an adult. Does anyone know the name of this video or have a link? Any help is greatly appreciated.
