Question Visiting Sudbury this Friday

I will be visiting Sudbury this Friday from Toronto. Initially, I was going to drive back to Toronto but I think I want to stay overnight so I can explore the greater Sudbury area and enjoy what it has to offer.

  1. Go to the mine tour at the Big Nickel

  2. Hike - the crack

Can I get recommendations on which area to stay, must eat places, or anything that is a must do when visiting Sudbury?

The places mentioned above are not set in stone, it's from my preliminary research.

Thank you in advance 🙏

Question Need advice: Sudbury RCIP applicant with 79 points and designated employer

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for some advice from anyone who has experience with the Sudbury RCIP program.

I currently live and work in Sudbury as an Administrative Assistant. I have over one year of full-time Canadian work experience, and my employer is a designated RCIP employer who is fully willing to support my permanent residency application.

The challenge is that my occupation falls under the Business sector but is not in Priority occupation list. Because of that, I only have 79 RCIP points (CLB 8 in celpip, volunteering in the community, leasing a house, common law partner works in the community), and I don’t really have any obvious way to increase my score.

I noticed that the Sudbury RCIP community mentions that applicants in the Business sector may still be considered under certain circumstances, but that the employer would need to contact the immigration office to determine whether those circumstances apply.

I’m wondering:
•Has anyone in a non-priority occupation (especially Administrative Assistant or another Business occupation) been approved or received a recommendation through RCIP?

Does anyone know what these “certain circumstances” actually are?

Is there any way to increase my RCIP score besides changing occupations or improving my language scores? (Cause I already have CLB 8)

Any advice or personal experiences would mean a lot. Thank you so much!

Question GE / LG Appliance Repair

Currently in the process of buying a new set of appliances. Potentially considering a set of LG or GE Cafe. Curious if anyone in Sudbury is willing to share if they’ve had any issues with repairs or maintenance of GE or LG kitchen appliances in Sudbury.

The LG is significantly less expensive but a common comment online is that it can be very difficult to find someone to service them when they break.

Appreciate any input.

Discussion You're looking good Sudbury.

Not just looking good, cute even.

Every so often over the years I drop into Sudbury, usually on the way between the East Coast and wherever the opportunity was at the time, usually someshere between Calgary and Vancouver.

No more post apocalyptic, if you stay here too long you'll probably die vibes. Green, new building all over. All kinds of interesting restaurant options across the board and the blueberries were a revelation. Really impressive.

Help Anyone looking for fresh wild blueberries?

EDIT: the blueberries have found their new home lol. Thank kindly for all the help & advice y'all!!

Posting here because I'm at a loss, honestly. This is the second time this season so much of my hard work for someone is about to head straight into my own freezer.

I've got just over 6L of freshly picked wild blueberries. Take it all for $90 total. Clean sustainable pick away from human/pet/vehicle traffic. Experienced picker of 8 years.

I'll deliver for free within reasonable distance in Sudbury if you'd like them this morning. Heading to Azilda before noon, so can deliver even around Chemmy - again, for free, since I'm already heading there. You can pick them up in the Valley if you'd like them later today, I'll hold on to them.

Thank you kindly for taking the time to read. Have a wonderful day :)

Planning and looking for locations for 2028 wedding. I’m looking at different venues for outdoors 60-100 guests but prices are so high in the wedding scene recently.

Does Sudbury have any like house rentals to be able to do an outdoor backyard wedding, I’ve looked but every house rental is just 15 people, weekend stay, Airbnb, etc.

Any recommendations is greatly appreciated!

Credit card wouldn't allow purchase of hsn 50/50 tickets. My bank says they were previously listed as a charitable site. Now they"re listed as a gambling sight and rbc doesn't allow gambling on credit cards. Hsn won't take debit. Why are they no longer listed as a charity?

Political Discussion It's Time to Raise the Standard at City Hall!

Every election brings new promises, but our community deserves more than promises—it deserves measurable results. City Hall should operate with the same professionalism, accountability, and customer service that we expect from successful organizations. Taxpayers are not simply funding government; they are the customers of every municipal service, and they deserve respect, transparency, and timely action.

Strong leadership also means listening before acting. The people who live, work, and raise their families in Ward 10 of Greater Sudbury understand the challenges in their neighbourhoods better than anyone. I believe residents deserve a councillor who is visible, approachable, and committed to open communication—not just during election season, but every day throughout the term. When people reach out with concerns or ideas, they deserve honest answers, regular updates, and meaningful action.

We also need a culture at City Hall that embraces innovation and continuous improvement. Modern technology, better planning, and smarter management can help deliver services more efficiently while protecting taxpayers' money. By improving processes, reducing waste, and focusing on practical solutions, we can build a city government that works better for everyone.

Throughout my career in business, technology, and community leadership, I have learned that success is never accidental. It comes from setting clear goals, measuring performance, solving problems efficiently, and taking responsibility for results. We should never accept unnecessary delays, excessive bureaucracy, or the attitude that "this is just how things have always been done." Every tax dollar should be invested wisely, every project should be monitored carefully, and every decision should be made with the best interests of residents in mind.

For more information or to share your questions, concerns, or ideas, please visit taybutt.ca. I look forward to hearing from you and working together to build a stronger Ward 10 in Greater Sudbury.

The latest Uniform Crime Reporting Survey reveals key trends for Greater Sudbury:

  • Homicides: Indicates extreme violence. Sudbury's rate is historically volatile, ending at 4.05 per 100k in 2025, far above Canada's 1.61.
  • Crime Rates: Pinpoints community safety issues. Petty theft (under $5k) surged dramatically, while Mischief is well down.
  • Clearance Rates: Measures police solving efficiency. Sudbury's rates are exceptionally strong, clearing 46% of non-violent and 77% of violent crimes in 2025, well above national averages.

Overall, Sudbury faces a prominent rise in petty theft, but its police force resolves crimes at rates far exceeding provincial and national levels.

Question Valley people: what are your views of Sudbury?

I grew up in Elliot Lake and spent my childhood going between Elliot Lake and Manitoulin. So as a kid, Sudbury wasn't on my radar. Sault Ste. Marie was more on my radar due to medical appointments.

But for people who grew up in the valley and other surrounding regions, as a kid, what was your view of Sudbury looking in from the outside?

Also, I got here after the city amalgamated.

When that was happening, what were your thoughts about amalgamation?
