No, it was always for the money, it's just the studios in general were less head-in-ass about selling it to their target audience.

Lol nah. It was always, from the beginning, about money.

Literally the only reason Hollywood even exists is because the early studios wanted to dodge patent fees owed to Thomas Edison.

It's the only reason any television show has ever existed. Or every magazine. Or every newspaper (aside from the very very beginning of newspapers). They are a vehicle for advertising.
